some people and snow

anyone else finding this?

You have someone whos got into work and retells yet another harrowing story of the trip in. Saying how slippy the roads where, how the car would slip and slide, how, after finaly parking, they then struggeled to walk with the slippery footpaths and in the snow. By the end you'd think they'd climbed everest or summing! .. then come the questions ..

"What shoes you wearing, good pair of boots?"
" ... just me work shoes" (which are those totally flat and smooth soled shiney boots that city boys wear)

or even the girls who say its freezing outside and wont step out unless they go home, whilst wearing the shortest skirt thats passable in work and the thinist top possible.

**cue banging head against wall about peoples stupidity**

it amazes me why some people just aint prepared for snow .. considering we get it every year .. a good pair of boots cost about £90 and last years and years if looked after! good coat goes for the same amount and can also last years, warm trousers (pants for the americans) go for about a tenner .... smarten up people!

:monkies:

**rant over, you'll now be returned to normall programming**

I have to work outside all winter. My usual cold weather ensemble for directing traffic is as follows: Wool socks, Insulated boots, Jeans, t-shirt, Underarmor thermal turtle neck, long sleeve t shirt, company uniform polo shirt, zip front sweat shirt (with hood), insulated cotton duck bib overalls, safety yellow coat, traffic control safety vest, insulated gloves and when it's really cold (under15 degrees F) a balaclava and winter hat under my hard hat.

Even with all that on, when the temps are below 0 Fahrenheit, I still get cold after about an hour. But thankfully, when it's that cold out, the crews I flag for decide it's too cold to work anyway.

C-c-c-cold! Brrrrrrrrr!

We're having your kind of weather Brian, you have to factor in that we are use to average daytime temps in the low 40s this time of year!

And Chacha and the rest of the Florida gang are having our kind of weather. Sheesg! And we talk about global warming! :d

BTW, couldn't live without UnderArmor thermals, on my bike or taking a hike in this cold. I'm going to wait until 10:00 or 11:00 and go out and take some pix. Temps should be in the 20s by then, but I want to shoot sold frozen brook falls, sure to have frozen in the arctic climes we have had the past week.

I'm one of those, but I usually say it with a big smile on my face! :d

As for the short skirts, I often wonder why, but will be the last to complain about it.. ;)

My rant...

I can't believe that some people will come on an internet forum to complain about their female work colleagues wearing short skirts and thin tops ....

...and won't consider posting pics of the perpetrators!!!!!
:icon_lol:

PS. Not 10 minutes ago I almost broke my ar5e after slipping on a massive 3" thick layer of ice outside my back door. Serves my hush-puppy-wearing self! :d

I'm going to be in Derry NH tomorrow to do a traffic job. High temp looks like it will be in the high 20's tomorrow. I'll be well bundled up.

I have to get out every day no matter what the weather to check on the horses and feed them. My brother in law the postman at least gets days off. Bad weather, I just bundle up more and wear my rubber boots. Actually this time of year, I wear them almost everywhere anyway.

I Love Snow....:applause: :santahat:

But with it for some reason also comes COLD..
I learned many years ago how to dress in layers to stay warm..
( and a large breard helps)

Watching many poor souls who don't handle winter with grace..(dress correctly)
Makes me want to just shake my head in wonder..

I do enjoy the snow, and play in it when ever it is deep enough..:applause:

I am amazed I see very few children out in it now days..
When I was a Young Hobbit if it snowed, out came all the children to play and sled ride, build snowmen :snowman: (In my case snow Hobbits)

But my Mom would have never allowed us to sit around and watch TV, and the like..
If it wasn't too hot, or Cold we were ordered outside to play..

And all the Moms in the neighborhood were of a like mind..
So we learned to dress warmly and enjoy the winters..

Thanks MOM...:applause:

I cannot stand snow! I hate it so much I joined the military to get away from it since that was the only way to escape I had, and that is what keeps me going is how nice I have it to not be in snow. Granted here in Jacksonville it gets down into the teens in the winter, and is freezing cold. I do not like that at all. Rather deal with that than snow though. Going to go on leave to my moms (NY) for the next 2 weeks, and it does not looks good for me. The wife and kids are excited as they have never seen snow before, but I think that will quick change. We did buy them all the warm gear we could find here though. I know I will probably be buying a pair of good warm clothes once I get there as the selection in Florida isn't very good.

I find that a couple shots of Jack Daniels after coming in from the cold helps me .:ernae:

Boots, two pairs of socks, long underwear, shirt, heavy flannel shirt, coat, gloves, hat or face mask. Many layers of clothes, eat well, no alcohol.

The temps have been well below freezing here for a week or so....and my attire really hasn't changed all that much from my summer attire. Jeans, shorty socks, t-shirt, ball cap, sneakers. When I am going to be outside for a while, I put on my jacket...either a wind and water proof jacket with a thin liner or a denim jacket with a really cook tiger painted on the back. I don't own gloves or a heavy winter coat. I have never worn insulated underwear since I was maybe 8, and even then I only had them on for a few minutes...just long enough to realize that I did not like the tight clinginess of them. Heck, I still wear shorts most of the time around the house...even take the dogs out to potty in shorts and t-shirt. I have even been known to shovel show wearing shorts, t-shirt, ball cap, sunglasses and my black leather boots. I like the cold much more than I like the heat.
