Shadow Wolf 07

SOH-CM-2025
I've set up my game on my laptop: AMD Turion Mobile RM70 processor, RAM = 4 GB, ATI Radeon 3200 graphics card, Vista Home premium 64 bit OS.

What I want to know is what is best for max display/frame rates in the game? The 17' lcd screen is set at 1440 X 900 res by default and in the game's display settings I've set it up to the same level. Should I keep the game settings there or make them lower in order to maximize my frame rates?

I'm asking because when I run the movie capture program - FRAPS - it tries to turn into a slide show.

Opinions? Comments? Guesses?

Cheers: :ernae:

Shadow,

I have set my fps rate at 20 max as that is smooth and allows more resources for other issues like graphics. I have FS9 set the same way.

Anything beyond 25, IMO, is a waste of resources. Try it and see if it works for you.

BTW, movies on the big screen run at 24 fps if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks p14u2nxv. I assume you are refering to the fraps setting. I still need some input on the game display setting resolution vs framerates issue though.

Also, what is the result of player mdlnames mismatches?

For example: I loaded some missions by another player. The mission called for several JMK (Usio) and VN Ships. These for the most part do not include a mdlnames entries doc in the download, so if a player wants to used them in MB he will make up his own.

I noticed that when my game tried to load the mission it failed with a "cannot find Ship X in the library" message. The only reason I could thing of that this would happen is because of my and his mdlnames entry - which differ and are imprinted on the .mis file.

True?

Sorry it took so long to respond,

Shadow I can only assume that is true. My level of expertise is not where many here are at so I can only give my opinion. If there is a difference between what you list and what another developer listed as an intricate part of a mission should be exactly the same entry. How else would CFS2 engine know which is right...hence the "...missing..." response. Personally I would use mk_cfs2_util.exe and look into any conflicts such as you spoke but only as a last resort. I would doubly make sure that the entries were exactly the same as a start. I am not clear as to why they wouldn't be unless the mistake is by the developer initially and you are copying the difference between what CFS2 is looking for per the mission imprint and what the developer stated to add to the mdlnames file. Does that make sense? Can anyone clarify that more?

Btw, this utility, if you are not familiar, looks into conflicts such as what you stated concerning a specific ship (or aircraft, or bombs etc) missing.

Thanks. Good explanation. And when the authors don't include a mdlnames list with the daownload it leave us all guessing what to put in there.

Hey SW, ...

This (Max Visability Level) is your "Big Ticket" item.

It is your "player bubble", ...what the progy visually generates for you.

Since Volume is a cubic function, ...if you double (2X) the radius, ...you increase the volume by a factor of eight (8X).

ex.
Volume of a hemisphere (the progy only generates half the bubble, ...from the surface up), ...w/ a radius of:

15mi. = ~ _7K mi.^3
20mi. = ~ 17K mi.^3
30mi. = ~ 56K mi.^3

It adds up fast.

Even if you just take the surface Area increase, ...(since the rest is mostly sky, ...and clouds, ...and bogies, ...and parachutes, ...), ...it is still a squared function 2Xr = 4XArea

ex.

15mi. = ~ 1.4K mi.^2
20mi. = ~ 2.5K mi.^2
30mi. = ~ 5.6K mi.^2

...still adds up fast.

I Max out everything, ...(ex. the "detail Texturing", ...which looks crappy anyway), ...and keep the bubble small (15mi).

This works out fine up to ~ 18K ft., ...and I use it to 22K.
