One of my most favorate airplanes is the Savoia Marchetti S.81 "Pipstrello" it is the most beautiful 3 engined plane I know of. Sometime ago I found a Savoia Marchetti S.81 made for CFS2 it too is wonderful recreation done by a genetleman that his name escapes me (my sincere regrets) I spent much time trying to modify it to fly in FS2002..but without the code I think I failed...in FS2002 it would just disappear into a "box" flying in the air. Then yesterday I was going through the CFS2 add-on planes and then I saw it! It is a S.81 that was orignaly made for FS2004 by Mr Stefano Meneghini, it was then modified for CFS2, I decided to try it in FS2002...it flew just wonderful with its yellow paint and red strieps. I quickly modified a Doiner 3 engine flying boat panel for FS2002 to fit the S.81...it worked!
I then with a full load of gas in three fuel tanks took off from Lae NewGuinea enroute to Narui Island in the Pacific over 1,200 miles across open ocean, my flight from Lae across the Owen Stanley Mountain range cruising at 11,000 ft was uneventful, then over Port Morsbey and out to sea. I leaned out my mixture and propellar controls to very lean and pulled back on the thorttles until I was useing only 58 GPH, this gave me a range of well over 1,200 miles, at 2000 hrs I descended to 3,000 ft and 17 miles from Narui I could just see the lights of the runway lights on the island of Narui, at 2015 hrs I crossed the landing theashold lights and set down on the Narui Airport, now on to the Gilberts islands which lay ahead and hopefully Howland Island and then on to Hawaii.
Cheers
