Sound Card?

I thought I did not really have to have a sound card but I guess I am wrong.

I put together a computer from parts new and used. Funny thing to me is that the Motherboard has sound input/output ports - so why the need of a sound card. I thought it would be integrated on the MB.

Motherboard
Manufacture: EVGA
Model: 122-CK-NF68 2
Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI SPP Rev: A2
Southbridge: NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI SPP
LPCIO: Winbond W83627HDG

Your motherboard should have come with a dvd with drivers on it. Make sure to install the sound drivers from this dvd if you have not already. :)

You are much better off turning the onboard sound off in the bios and using a dedicated PCI sound card like an SB Audigy 2.. they are very inexpensive and take a huge load off the CPU.

Did not realize that it tooks such a load. Will get sound card and thanks all.

Well, I r cornfused.

I installed the driver for the mb found at http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/default.asp?switch=2

but still no sound from outputs on mb.

there does not seem to be seperate driver for the onboard sound.

You may need to enable on-board sound in the BIOS. When you start up (or reset) your computer, you should be able to press a button on your keyboard to enter the BIOS. This key may be the delete key or the escape key or even the Function 8 key (depends on the mb manufacturer). Once you are in the BIOS, look for a setting for on-board sound and make sure it is enabled.

If that does not work, try going into control panel and selecting system. Click on hardware, then device manager and check for any red exclamation points or yellow question marks. Finally, select sound or audio and click on properties. Make sure you see a message that sound is enabled. Good luck.
