Sound Pack Base for Greg Pepper's S-51 (HSO3) uploaded

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
In preparation of the completion of the update of Greg Pepper's Sikorski S-51 (HSO3) that I am working on, I have uploaded the base pack for the new sound package that I put together using parts from the S-55 sound pack I uploaded and Mike Hambly's amazing PW R-985 sound pack (ba_gbr.zip on Flightsim.com). Please read the Read Me file fully in order to get the full sound pack put together properly...it's not hard, just has to be done in the right order.

I shipped the base package for the updated S-51 to Michael Davies, who will be tweaking the air and config files from the AS S-55 to better fit and reflect the S-51. I have a few more skins to do...not sure how many for sure so I say FEW between my teeth. Not sure when the updated helo will be ready to upload, but once it is uploaded I am sure that it will be a fitting tribute to Greg Pepper and that it will meet with approval by many FS9 users.

I can't decide what I like more about the ALPHA S-55, the way it handles or the way your sound package sounds. I have flown the rotors off of this thing since I downloaded it; your sound file makes it really worth the time!

Keep up the very good work! :applause:

I downloaded your S-51 sound pack and, per your instructions, combined it with the Blue Arrow GB pack. No joy! :faint:

What I get is no sound at all, except for wind. Any suggestions?

I am downloading the package now to check it out. I may have done something wrong when I prepared the upload package.

What helo are you using the sound package with? The package is designed to work with the updated version of Greg Pepper's S-51, which I am still working on getting finalized. Most of the helo's I have tried, including the original version of the S-51, have airfiles based on a turbine powered system. The updated S-51 will use the air and config files from the AS S-55, which is the first helo I have found that actually mimicks a radial engine power plant. The flight dynamics will be tweaked to fit the S-51 by Michael Davies, the AS guru who made the S-55 fly so freaking well.

Wonder what would happen if I put the S-55 airfile into the S-51 file? On second thought, I think I'll just do that and let you know.

The S-51 and S-55 sound pack are nearly identical...other than the motor sounds. The S-55 has the motor sounds for the Pratt and Whitney R-1340 while the S-51 sound pack will reflect the Pratt and Whitney R-985. The rotor sounds are exactly the same, the sound config files are exactly the same other than the name for the individual motor sound files.

I think the problem you are having with the sound pack is due to the stock S-51 air file being set up to reflect a turbine powered helo.

Shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I will shoot you a beta version of the flight dynamics for the S-51...based on the air and config files from the Alpha Sim S-55. This beta flight dynamics set will be refined by Michael Davies, the maker of the S-55 FDE set, to reflect the size, weight, performance and specs of the S-51.

Well, that was a total bust! The a/c danced around in a tight circle like a demented whirlwind. That's obviously not the answer!

Re: my previous post.

It referred to my replacement of the stock s51 airfile with one named S55. I am looking forward to getting the package you send!

Indded it will, but right now I'm on 12hr shift block and finish Tues morning 07:00, then I have four days off so will sort the revised FDE then, I might get a couple of hours tomorrow as we change from day to night shift, but it will only be a couple of hours I'm afraid, 12hr shifts don't leave a lot of spare time for anything else, but then the four days off is ample compensation, so patience young padwans :).

Michael

Michael,

I know the hardships of 12 hour shifts. My wife used to work 12s. Work, sleep, and try to find time to eat, shower, and have a life.

No hurry on the flight dynamics..when ever you get the time to do them will be soon enough. I don't think many of us are going anywhere.

A TRIUMPH! Your S-51 is just great! I may never fly fixed-wing again. :woot:

I look forward to all of the new skins.

Just one thing...

How do you change the contact points so that the wheel are not sunken into to ground?
