French Air Service SPAD VII C.1 S1461, flown by 2nd Lt. Rene Fonck. SPA 103, Summer 1917. Braggart, show-off and superb pilot, Ren Paul Fonck was one of the few great aces to live through the war, dying at age 59 in 1953. Officially credited with 75 kills (the highest ranking allied pilot), he claimed to have shot down at least 127.
