Spitfire Cockpit mirror question

Good morning all,This mirror stuck on top of the canopy really interferes with my sights as the enemy seem to hide behind it.
Iv`e opened the model file and in the M3D file iv` found the mirror but it`s encrypted and i don`t know how much needs to be edited to get rid of it.
Can anyone put some light on this?

I don't think it's that easy (or even possible) to do that to a model by editing the .M3D file. If so, more people would have adjusted the existing models to their liking. Normally you would need the source file to do such a thing. However, you could try making the part invisible by adding an alpha layer to the .dds file that holds the texture for the rearview mirror - with the offending part blacked out. I think I saw someone do that to the B-25 top turret in one of an Ankor's shaders-thread.

But from my point of view (no pun intended), if it was there in real life, real pilots must have faced the same problem so deal with it :untroubled: (But there's always F4 and F5 for those who want to fly with the most unobstructed view).

Hi Alcanallen,

like Frosty says, you cant hex edit out the mirror (well not to the best of my knowledge). I did a quick aplha channel edit and it does remove the mirror face but the frame of the mirror is modeled without a texture assigned to it, which means the frame is using green/grey gmax colour for the frame rather than using a texture sheet. so the alpha channel has no effect on that part.

I've attached a winrar file with the ammended VC textures to remove the mirror face, just in case you would like to try it.

For ETO installs they go in the aircraft\shared\ETO_spits shared. back up your original first though.

regards Rob.
