Hello All,
I usually lurk in the FS9 forums. I read this and thought it might be of interest. I ordered a copy of FSX Deluxe even before stumbling on this info. I am now even happier still.

Sporty’s Pilot Shop recently released a training syllabus aimed at home users. The syllabus seeks to guide students through the process of using Microsoft Flight Simulator at home as a training tool.
They syllabus includes 15 lesson plans, each with suggested maneuvers, completion standards, and study resources. Also included is a scenario disc that supports Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The disc allows users to set up the lessons faster and easier.
The guide also includes tips on how to configure Flight Sim X for the best realism. Both the guide and disc integrate into Sporty’s complete flight training kit.
The Sporty’s Flight Simulator Training Guide is $34.95. For those who don’t yet have Microsoft Flight Sim X, it can be purchased for $39.95.

By the way if any of plan on getting your PPL, already have your PPL, or heck even if you aren't, AOPA is a great organization and they produce a fantastic magazine full of great tips and stories. The price is very inexpensive for all the benefits and representation pilots get.
