I usually lurk in the FS9 forums. I read this and thought it might be of interest. I ordered a copy of FSX Deluxe even before stumbling on this info. I am now even happier still.

Sporty’s Pilot Shop recently released a training syllabus aimed at home users. The syllabus seeks to guide students through the process of using Microsoft Flight Simulator at home as a training tool.
They syllabus includes 15 lesson plans, each with suggested maneuvers, completion standards, and study resources. Also included is a scenario disc that supports Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The disc allows users to set up the lessons faster and easier.
The guide also includes tips on how to configure Flight Sim X for the best realism. Both the guide and disc integrate into Sporty’s complete flight training kit.
The Sporty’s Flight Simulator Training Guide is $34.95. For those who don’t yet have Microsoft Flight Sim X, it can be purchased for $39.95.

Ya beat me to it...I was going to post this as well. AOPA and Sporty's recognizes FSX as the home Flight Simulation trainer of choice. Thanks for posting...:applause: By the way if any of plan on getting your PPL, already have your PPL, or heck even if you aren't, AOPA is a great organization and they produce a fantastic magazine full of great tips and stories. The price is very inexpensive for all the benefits and representation pilots get.

It'd be great if AOPA and Flight1 teamed up again to provide more FS aircraft. :)
 
A softcover, "Microsoft Flight Simulator as a Training Tool " has been out for a few years now.

Sold for about $25 last time I looked through it.

It's very well done.

AOPA Has a Good Web Based 'Flight Planner'

I've been an AOPA member for a long time and they have always provided good value for the ~$40 annual fee. The biggest benefits for me are the 'annual' pilot bag, the web based flight planning software and the legislative representation (they lobby for GA). The flight planning software is not directly applicable to FSX, but it is interconnected to several databases and provides a bunch of information from airport diagrams and METARS to low and high altitude airways, etc., etc.
 
No PPL here. I accidentally spent my extra money in my spare time!? But Yes!, AOPA is worth its weight in gold just in the articles in the magazine. Yeah, I don't just look at the pictures.
