I chanced to fly over this area to find the lake is missing. I use GE and Rhumbaflappys mesh so I tried deactivating the mesh with no fix there. I am hesitant to "deactivate" GE so I was wondering if anybody knows why the lake might be gone and if there is a fix out there. Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't help with GE (don't have it), but I can verify that the Sproat Lake Martin Mars scenery/AI pack works fine with the Rhumbaflappy mesh.

I remember way back when I installed UT that Sproat was moved inland from the shore quite a way. Search for the buildings, it's there someplace.

The buildings and AI show up fine, except that they all reside on solid ground amongst the trees with no water in sight.

Neither GE nor mesh (or landclass) have anything to do with lakes. Many, hundreds or probably thousands, of lakes are missing. Some people did a lakes project for Colorado a few years ago and a lot were added, really a lot. The best solution for north America and Europe is Ultimate Terrain. For other areas you can only hope somebody made a landscape program.

Sorry I forgot to say I have UT as well. Thanks for jogging the memory about the additional lakes , I'll see what I can find. Some day I'll do a second FS install to check things like this out. The scenery package said nothing about the lake not being there so I'm guessing at this point some scenery I put in maybe affected that area. Boy, digital needle in a haystack.

Ultimate terrain gives Sproat Lake a more complex shoreline than default. It doesn't move the lake so much as it just pushes and pulls the shape of it. It's a pretty big feature on Vancouver Island. If you've completely lost Sproat, there may be other big lakes missing too?

Port Alberni Regional airport, fly straight south a few kilometres, then look slightly to the west. Should be there. Big. Fat. Mountains all around. Trout. Hirogliphics. Water bombers. Good pubs.

Nope, Twilight Zone. No water except for the body going south to the sea from CYPB. Doesn't show up on FS map view either. I tried a 2002 mesh helper plus a Vancouver LC file that helped in other ways, but I still haven't filled up the lake. Is there a dam I should know about? At least I can taxi around the moored boats and pull up to the Mars. I must have done something to do this but can't think what. Didn't Holger S. do lots of work in this part of the world? I do have some of his stuff so I'll try turning that off.

That's CBS8 to the upper right, Sproat package docks to the lower left. The AI fly, water effects and all too. Where the water should be is also completely flat, not even a bumpy ride for the Cessna taxiing on it so it's as if there is a LC telling the area to look like ground. Does that make sense?

Do you run a scenery called "East Vancouver Island" by Harvey Janszen? I believe it detailed as far west as the Alberni Valley, and for me caused a total sim crash when run with Ultimate Terrain. It featured custom shorelines that conflicted with UT, and in my case, shortage of memory warning and flightsim brain hemorage mit crash.

This is a case where you probably have to begin disabling sceneries one at a time to see what happens. If you've got the East Van Isle, that'd be the first one I'd put to sleep.

Edit: Just saw your sceenie...wow. Are other fresh water bodies missing too? That whole area is just full of lakes...big ones.

That's a serious over-write happening....

East VC Isl is one I just tried out. No crash but perhaps better LC details elsewhere. Happen to know which default scenery file Sproat lies in? I can put that back to see what happens. Nothing jumped out from my scenery list that would point to this territory, so I'm kind of thinking yeah I might have to hunt and peck.

Flight Simulator 9/Scenery/Namw/scenery

Ultimate Terrain backups/disables a number of default terrain/coastal files, and adds their own. You'll find them at the bottom beginning with the letters UT.

The disabled files will end with XXX.

Perhaps a harmless exercised would be to re-install UT to ensure that none of their critic (IE: fresh water shoreline...) files are missing.

Edit: Just reading back the thread, I realize that I've assumed you're running Ultimate Terrain. Perhaps I'm wrong?

You may wish to go into the game install disc and copy out a file. ( I can't remember which disc....) You're looking for MSGAME8.CAB. Open it with Winrar, Winzip, 7zip....whatever. Inside is the default scenery folder. Open that and you'll find the NAMW folder. With Flightsim turned off, go to the same location in the flightsim, and rename NAMW to something like NAMWtemp, or NAMWbakup....or something so you don't lose it or forget where it is. Copy the fresh NAMW folder into Scenery, and then start up the sim. See what happens.

I thought I'd start small and turned off UT Enhanced Lakes and Streams and voila, water has returned. Also map view shows bazillions of lakes and inlets now. So what next? Still think a re-install?

After some research turns out I only purchased UT USA so I don't know why this area would be affected by it. Looks good without the coastlines so I guess I'll just turn them on and off as needed.

Ultimate Terrain USA covers into Canada to the northern tip of Vancouver Island. A reinstall will probably fix the issue.
