SSW delayed activations key

Unfortunately, it happens more and more often that our users complain that they did not receive the activation key even after 2 days they have requested it.
Almost always our checks indicate that the key has been sent regularly, but more and more often the mail providers block the attachment without notifying the recipient or the sender.
The reason for the refusal is often in the filters that the providers insert into their software, generic and often badly configured.
It is time for users to complain to the providers and better configure their e-mail accounts but unfortunately they increasingly blame us for blame we do not have.
We suggest to our users that experience an exaggerated delay in receiving the activation keys to open a ticket on our help desk, we will solve the problem in a very short time-
Greetings and merry Xmas greetings

Just a suggestion:

don't e-mail the keys, but send the users a link to download the keys from your site, preferrably connected and authenticated with their account credentials?

Cheers,
Mark

I agree with Mark.

I went through this last October trying to get the key for my F-104G download. I should say right off the top that the
customer service from the SSW Support Desk was simply superb. But they tried twice to send the key as an attachment,
and each time my Outlook simply stripped it off without notice.

For those who haven't ordered from SSW before, the key simply isn't a list of symbols you type or paste in, it's an
actual file, like a .dll file, that you need to run to get the plane to work in the sim.

I finally got the key because the second time trying to send, the SSW Support person also posted a link to the key in
my Support Ticket details at SSW, and I was then able to download the key from there without further problem.

I couldn't find any settings in Outlook or on my PC to change this, but then I'm not the most knowledgeable PC person.
However, I suspect that, just like Windows 10 auto updates, this monitoring of email attachments is an auto security
feature for my own protection from MS, whether I want it or not, and no amount of complaining will change that.

Going forward, I suspect SSW may need to rethink their key delivery options, or the time may come when not a single
key attachment gets delivered at all.

Just my .02. But I will say again, the customer service from SSW though all this was simply superb.

Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy New Year to all!

Thanks to all for suggestions,
we are thinking to just use an external nterface program where the user type the 16 bytes key to activate the model.
You are right we cannot go ahead with this way since soon will came the time we cannot ship a single attachment.
Best wishes for a merry Xmas and happy new year.

Following the advice of roger-wilco and robM we have recently updated the system of shipping activation keys that should solve problems with mail servers that reject our attachments.
Now we no longer attach the keys directly in the mail but rather a text file containing instructions for inserting the activation key into the window registry, the textual form should guarantee that the mail provider will accept it.
The instructions are read by a small program (shown in the figure) that can be downloaded by the user and whose download link is contained in the mail itself.
The user must download and run the program, very small, about 400 KB, open the text file received and activate the key.
So far the tests conducted on about 30 users have been successful.
We hope this will help alleviate the pains of our users.
Happy New Year

Worked great for me today. I got my activation key within an hour after sending the request. Thanks for the improved work around. Looking forward to trying it out.

Great stuff! Thank you so much!
I'll spend some time tomorrow to get up to date with my SSW products.

Cheers,
Mark

SSW, what's the best way to contact you regarding technical issues with your products? I bought the Tornado and F-104S, activated fine, but it only shows black models, inside and out and my FPS had dropped dramatically.

Matt, black models show that you probably did not download and install the textures which is an additional file found on the SSW site. If you still have issues the best way is to contact SSW using their help desk, also at the SSW site. The response is usually very fast.

Interesting! I missed that file. Thanks Dimus. I will go back and look. More to follow......

Little warning: it appears the activation process does not work with HOTMAIL.COM accounts.
I have bought and installed the Harrier, the F-104G and the Tornado this afternoon. For each of them, I have triggered the activation sequence with the little tool launched at the end of the installation.
Although my address at hotmail was valid for the tool, and the "email sent" message was shown in the log, I didn't receive any "duplicate" of that email (the tool is supposed to send a registration request email to you as well).
I just tried again using a GMAIL address instead, and this time I got the email copy !
Now I'll reinstall the other models and retrigger the activation sequences again with the gmail address. Apologize to SSW if they get a few duplicates from me :/

Quick update: just as a completed the reinstall of the last SSW model to re-trigger the activation request with a correct address, I received the activation keys from SSW... on my HOTMAIL account :dizzy:
This means that SSW has received the initial activation request emails correctly, although I didn't get any copy.
This also means they got several emails from me, for each of these models, since I retried several times.
If somebody from SSW reads here again: I'm sorry for the trouble :(

Update, I found the liveries and textures, but it is either an incomplete download or I need some sort of application file that is not part of the download...ideas?

Yup, as suspected, incomplete download. Indeed installed and now verifying textures completed. Thanks for the assistance. Was really getting frustrated and I very much appreciate the assistance.

I just had a chance to read this, I'm in the middle of reconfiguring my simulator environment. Do I need to do anything special to uninstall SSW aircraft from one P3D V4.1 install and then install it into another P3D V4.1 install (I'm changing out a Developer license I need to downgrade and install into an Academic install)?

Another question, do I need the new installers from SSW?

I don't think so. I doubt you'll even need to rerun the registry tool. Worst that can happen is that it won't work and you'll find P3D rudely exits for no apparent reason after loading an SSW jet.

Thanks for report,
yes it happens, even if rarely, that the mail provider does not forward the user mail attachment even if is a plain text, fortunately we have a manual registration procedure that usually solves the problem.

HI,
to uninstall simple delete on \Airplanes SSW related aircarft folders.
Making changes you say most probably makes key invalid, not a big problem, reinstalling the product should trigger a new key request, since we have your mail address on our database is easy make a quick check and send another (valid) key.
Having an invalid key makes your sim to hang on PAUSE or silently shut.
regards
