start point position

How can I reposition the starting point of an A/C on the tarmac. In some missions the wingmans explode in the back while in startup.Putting the start point more forward might cure the problem.
Thanks.

Hi gosd,

Usually aircraft crash on takeoff after they have put power down. It is not usually to do with their initial position on the runway. AI are pretty good at leaving enough of a gap before taking off. However if you are the flight leader and start to take off, don't muck around. If you throttle back or brake much, AI will brake too and in twitchy aircraft like spitfires and 109s they can easily crash.

However if the aircraft behind you are crashing before you start up, you can edit the points that define the distance between aircraft on the runway apron.

I'm away from my cfs computer right now, but from memory you go into the Objects folder for you cfs3 install. In the objects folder are a number of xdp files for runways of various lengths.

To find out what runway you are using you will need to know the airbase facility file (found in the Facilities folder) for the airbase you are using. The facility file will tell you the name of the runways being used.

Anyway, the xdp files in the objects folder have entries defining the location of aircraft prior to takeoff. It is possible to edit the relevant file using notepad, and create a bit more space between aircraft. Each aircraft is located as a distance from a central point but you'll quickly get the hang of it.

Always back up before editing! Hope someone will add more detail to this. As I say, this is from memory as I can't access my fiiles at the mo'.
