static planes creation tutorial

I am not a mission writer, I just push some mud.
But i am wondering why the ship has to be moving
and not static.....Aircraft take off and return to the
same location..?? Just like leaving a land base.

Setting up a hard non moving surface is not very hard.

Just wondering

Dave

Hi Dave,

You are correct, the carriers don't have to move, and if they're static, it's easier to model. However I think the intention was to simulate a strike package carrier take off from a crowded deck. Not very realistic if the carrier is static.

OR

Modelling the crowded carrier decks that filled the windshields of diving SBDs at Midway. Again, if the carier is not moving, not very immersive.

I'm considering doing some deck filled carriers that use the stock model.

Allen,

Do you have some models for the Zero, Kate, and Val. Need atleast 3 LODs and prop animations at different setting.

Then I'll need the F4F4 or 3, Dauntles, Avenger, and Devastator.

There yer go Allen, a couple of hours mdl bashing and attached is all the stock carrier ac as low poly 3ds files that will import into Gmax. I've chosen not the lowest poly ac, but those that still look quite good but still low, and made them as they would be on deck ie folded wings etc. In a couple of cases I've done the next lowest poly down, to give choice.

The 3ds files are the ac as ripped from the original ac, the pics show after a little more tweaking. The final two pics are the CV Enterprise with the ac as a complete model, so they are not placed in this case but part of the carrier model.

If you can make use of them then have fun!

Cheers

Shessi

Stick in my 2 cents.....

....Gius, I don't know if you are aware that both Ti Loup and the B24 guy did static a\c with folded wings. Maybe they can help you out.
Max IIRC the mission you refer to is a TiLoup mission where he has a\c on deck with some having engines turning.

Allen...

Can you send me prop discs for the Zero and WildCat. Actually all of them that you have for both Japanese and American ACs.

I want to do the Carriers.
