Status Messages.

My question is when I'm hit it shows on my screen where I'm hit so on and so forth but when I hit my enemy it does not give any status message at all as to where I hit him unless I shoot him down then it will give me a message for that. How do I make it so I get messages on my screen when I am making hits and damaging my enemy?

You can't. The only "damage report" you get on the other guy is what you see while you're drilling him: hit flashes, parts flying off, smoke, vapor and fire. The shoot-down message basically saves you the trouble of following him down for a visual confirmation, you can turn your attention to somebody else.

I dunno...all i do know is that shift+D turns the scrolling msgs on and off by default. And in my sim i get full, scrolling reports on my own a/c's damage and that of my targets, until it finally says, "You shot down so and so"...by default its supposed to give you the details you're looking for.

I stand corrected. :redf:
KWB, sorry for the bum info - honestly never noticed anything other than "You shot down...", I better fly more Quick Combat so I remember this stuff.

No problem. I think I was thinking of CFS3 where it does give you a status report each time you score hits but CFS2 does not.

Well as i said, my CFS2 DOES give detailed status reports, but i can't remember if that's by default or due to my addon CFSUtils_V4a tool and the CFO WEATHER module which alters certain settings in the sim, including combat status messages to some extent. They're both old legacy tools i installed years ago, changed some things in my sim and haven't thought much about their impact since -- i can't even find valid download links for them anymore. But my point is that maybe you and Tarps are right about this not being a default function as in CFS3.

Sorry that It took me so long to answer you but I couldn´t find where I had seen the tip I had in mind.

I think there is a solution to your question. "In order to see where you hit your opponent, you have to add the following entry to your cfs2.cfg:

[CHEATS]
DAMAGEMSGS=1

I´ve never tried it but it might work. The answer was in a print I´ve made long ago from.... the SOH CFS tips page: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?loc=tip&page=index Where else???

When I was a newbie :isadizzy:to CFS2 (I´m still) I´ve read all these tips in order to make my learning curve steeper and avoid the most frecuent mistakes.

If you try it, tell us if it works.

Cheers, Discus:ernae:

Yes,Yes, YESSSSSSSSSSSS!! That solved it discus!!! I now get status messages as I'm scoring hits along with the message that I have shot him down. Thank you so very much for the info. Don't feel your a newbie, I havn't even read the tips page but I'm going to now! Thanks again Discus.

Being an old timer at CFS2 I have to say I have used the DAMAGEMSGS=1 cheat and I love it. Unfortunately, I cannot get this particular cheat to work on my HP laptop with Vista operating system. :banghead: Some day I will find the time to partition the hard drive and install my old XP operating system. I hope that will fix some of these little problems.
