Stigler and Brown pack uploaded.

Daniel asked me if I'd ever released the not-up-to-much B-17F skin I did some time ago for a Stigler and Brown package - the incident where a German pilot escorted a badly damaged B-17F out over the North Sea instead of shooting it down - so I thought I'd better. The original project was supposed to include a historical write-up which finally never saw the light of day...

You get a new DL Bf109g-6 with all the usual goodies, to start with.

The B-17 skin is really only AI quality, so don't be too disappointed! But it is perhaps a bit more convincing than the original FP effort. There is a special no guns xdp set up to stop your gunners having a go at Olt Stigler!

Under CFS3 aircraft/German.

This is great :applause: All of the mods work perfectly :ernae:
What would be the best configuration in qc and which theatre should be used to get the most out of this scenario ?

I'd use them in mission builder with the spawns set to off - to be honest, as missions go, it's not going to be a world of excitement unless you do it in multiplayer. The FP B-17 desperately needs a decent FM to stop it porpoising up and down in an utterly unrealistic manner which also makes it impossible to formate with in any meaningful way. If anyone knows more about these things than I do - Rene, if you're out there! - it would be good to fit the AvHistory B-17G flight dynamics to the FP models.

Firepower is/was an odd mix, in fact. Some first class modelling (and some less first class) let down in each case by shoddy details. In the case of the Fortresses, it was the paintwork and the FM, with the Lanc, there was no decent mos file, and so on and so forth. Pity they never really finished the package properly.

Indeed, I've taken it apart and kept the parts I like, improved them as much as I can with whatever is available and left the rest. But then again, no add-on gets into my installs without at least a couple tweaks to standardize it with the rest. For the B-17F I've added the AvHistory B-17G FM which works quite well. Any differences I imagine are relatively minor compared to how troublesome the firepower FM is. Your skin finishes off the improvements for that aircraft nicely!

I forgot it did that. You can fix it by copying the contact points section of the B-17F aircraft.cfg to the AvHistory .cfg you are replacing it with.

A Master at work! Beautiful..
Thanks for these my friend

Using an Alpha Channel in the DDS file we could create a version of the b-17 with the appearance of a missing elevator and the gaping holes in the body. This is how I added the longer cockpit windows for the Japanese L2D Tabby version of the DC3. It's not perfect, but perhaps an acceptable illusion. Anyone interested?

I saw this while I was researching the aircraft - unfortunately, I'd say that the artist got a couple of details wrong. Firstly, he used a photo of Stigler's aircraft that is some months out - can't remember how long, but four to six or so. I believe that the spinner was actually black, not white, though why I decided that I can't remember either! But it did correspond to JG 27 practice at the time of the incident, in any case. Spinners tended to be reasonably standardised throughout the Staffel at the very least. And as far as I can tell, the writing on the nose of 'Ye Olde Pub' was in fact yellow. Again, can't remember why, but it got a bit complicated...

It took me a long time because I thought I'd forgotten how to do this properly, but in the end it was just an incompatibility with the 3DS and MOS files that was keeping it from working as I expected. The 3DS needed a careful hex edit in the materials section, and the MOS file had to be removed entirely.

I ended up leaving a bit more port elevator than I wanted because the model included a spar that I couldn't make go away, and it looked better to have at least a stub left covering it.

Yes Please Major send it my way..

Thanks..

First class work there! You really have sorted the thing out nicely. Next step would be editing the xdp file to add lots of smoke, and adding bulletholes to the original skin. I can do the bulletholes, and probably the smoke as well, but not today.....
