Awesome! Nice work, Pam.
Isnt it cool that we have boats and vehicles to work with, not just planes and jets?
Hehe. stopped lookng at FSX as a flight simulator alone many moons ago.. or me, its a World simulator. Perhps even a time machine of sorts. If say we take Francois Normandy scenery, toss in a few hundred AI american boats A few gliders, a whole lot of German firepower and some software that can actually target your ship or plane and shoot you down or sink you ( yes, its being developed ) and you have the Normandy invasion to explore, re-live: Or WWI, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or any place and time. Bring some friends in multiplayer, and shoot them down ::lol:; You can do anything in FSX. All you gotta do is dream.
Someone mentioned Operation Tiger. It was a Practice run for the normandy invasion and the Allies most embarrassing black eye. The Germans got word that there was a bunch of allied activity going on in the channel, so they dispatched their boats. I believe that five boats were sortied. During the "maneuver", the two cruisers that were too escort the practice convoy were back in port. One was broken down, and i dont recall what was wrong with the other one. It left the convoy almost entirely defenseless.. The flotilla closed in and began sinking transports, which were loaded with men. I "think" It was the Ajax that was able to finally respond, and one S-boat ran interference against it as the others made their escape. The S-boat was sunk, and its men taken prisoner. you can find their interrogation testimony online.. Normandy itself was another matter.. Five oats were dispatched from Cherbourgh. Upon reaching the invasion site, the lead boat saw the size of the invasion force and decided discretion was the better part of valor.
The men of the S-boats took no joy in torpedoing merchantmen or laying mines. Not one i've seen or read interviews of considered that to be ( for lack of a better term ) a warriors job. Destroyers, light cruisers, that was one thing, but unarmed civilians grated against their nerves as much as it grated against ours. I'm beginning to be able too see past the swastika, Past Berlin, to the individual people who were just wearing a uniform as I did, and just doing their jobs, being soldiers..
::Edit:: I found this great re-inactment forum yesterday that has an amazing amount of stuff on these boats.. In case anyone is interested. heres the link::

::Edit 2 :: Francois. About half way down the above link theres a picture of the S-boat pens at Cherbourgh. I recognized the three roofs of the ferry building in the background. The Pens are located in that basin area to the southwest of the main harbor where that bridge i spoke to you about is located..
