German Wonder weapons released.. Heinkel He-162 and Gotha 229 are out.

Nifty little fighter that He-162, but the Gotha 229 is a bit tougher to fly on takeoff and landing.

Thanks Bear and the AvH Team!:medals:

The 229 was very unstable as designed much like the USAF YB-35 & YB-49 Northrop flying wings. As built the 229 is not really much of a gun platform
despite Nazi propaganda to the contrary.

It is our belief that as the design evolved a vertical stabilizer would have been added to control yaw much like the Me-163 rocket plane.

The 229's test pilot & aircraft were lost when an engine failed on a landing approach & the plane became uncontrolable.

Will see about sharing my time today with building an R/C Fw-190 A8 of JG 26 "SCHLAGETER" W.Nr. 170346. Piloted by Major Josef "PIPS" Priller Geschwaderkommodore JG-26 101 Abschusse Luftwaffe Western front Lille-Vendedville/France in June 1944 & releasing a few more AvH 169 planes.:isadizzy:

If you remember the movie "The Longest Day" Pips is the pilot who flew over the landing beaches on D-day. Priller & his wigman Heinz Wodarczyk, both with massive hangovers, were the only Luftwaffe planes to do so.

IIRC we also did Black 13 as a AvH plane, promise of things to come???????????????

Indeed. I can hardly wait to see what kind of wonders they will release next..:jump:

I LOVE that Movie Bear! Thanks for the info, I'll try to test myself further on the 229. But I wait for the others to come out as well.

I wish we could put a yaw string on the Gotha's cockpit windscreen which would make it easier to fly. You really need to be active with the rudder pedals to keep the yaw down.

One thing we can't do with CFS3 (but we can with Strike Fighters) is toe in the engines 8 degrees which would help yaw under power.

When the test pilot lost the engine on the test flight if he had chopped the power he could have landed it in one of the surrounding fields. Flying on one engine would be very difficult at best.
