Sub Pens

RJ,

Thank you very much for the vehicles. I will make sure they are put to good use!

I would now like to suggest, if I may, a library object idea. Could you possibly take a crack at making German WWII sub pens? I have three of them for DamBusters, but can't use them for any campaigns or missions I release because they are property of Just Flight.

I'm building a harbor facility this morning at Wilhelmshaven and feel handcuffed by having to use conventional piers and other facilities, it just doesn't feel right. Nothing I've used to this point seems authentic.

With thanks,

RJ,

Yeah, something like that. More detail would be required, but you already know that. It also has to have a "super-strong" .dp file.

Are these of any use?

They are the CFS3 subpen textures converted from DDS format. The object is in M3D format which, I think, cannot be converted for CFS2 use.

Hi Kdriver They can, but it is better once you have the model to study it and the rebuild to suit because of copyright. Thanks for the info I will take a look.
Robert John.

Thanks RJ.:applause::applause::applause:

Very needed target! Now we will have something for some great bombing runs with Grandslams Lancs or escort missions with great views to do.

One less item in the "Wanted" list.

Cheers, Discus

Large Subpen no good for gsl

View attachment 29442

I do not think I can make these subpens as gsl scenery as they are to big. They just suddenly pop up as large objects always do in gsl scenery in cfs2.
I am going to see what they look like as ordinary scenery.

Comments welcome.

RJ,

I run into this problem with my ports. What I usually do is split the layouts, that way I can make them into GSL. The pop-up phenomenon is not something you can typically avoid.

What is the "pop-up" distance?

It might be easier from a GSL standpoint to split the large subpen in GMAX into halves (or quarters), and then put them together in mission builder, saving it in Mission Builder as a layout. You can then import that layout into Martin Wright's GSL editor as a layout, this making it permanent GSL.

The only catch with that is that it would become permanent GSL scenery at that location, so that web page I gave you that has the locations of the U-boat pens becomes critical, because you would have to place the sub-pens at that location, making them permanent scenery.

If you need help with layouts and GSL, let me or achim27619 know. I'll be happy to help, we can use Skype to talk about it, I can even share my screen through that program to give you a "hands-on" tutorial.

Hi Rami
As Size of objects go its large for gsl scenery. I have been told by someone in the community it is better for very large objects to be scenery.
I have placed objects into scenery useing airport for windows.
Do you use airport for windows.
I can convert the gmax bgl into a api with fsregen.
I know it is hard to place a model straight out of gmax. I will need a gsl file for the docks.
The model I done is BREST SUBPENS.
If you had a sub you can go inside my model.View attachment 29451

Robert John,

Make sure to hang on to your source files....geez...where's simonu when you need him?

Have you done the port where the Brest subpens are. If not I can place them in cfs2.If you have send me the gsl file so I can place them.

RJ,

No, I have not done Brest, but Achim did build an airfield there. The way I usually make GSL files is...

1) Do the port layout in mission builder, (which would include the subpens) and then save the layout file.

2) Use the Gob check in Martin Wright's GSL editor (note, this is not the same as GSLadd) and add the layout into my cfs2.gsl file, find that individual gob, (or gobs) and save them, and that's how you get your individual GSL file.

3) All you would have to do is place the objects where you want them into the CFS2 universe, and then save the layout. The rest is easy.

If the subpen is destroyable, that's all that really matters. I can use my magic to make the GSL files.

Robert,
these look great.

I only don´t like the swastikas. Of course they were printed on every official document back then.
But seeing them on the pens looks "overdone" to me - like Nazi-Subpens of a Hollywood movie.
