Successful attack on enemy two seater (with Spad XIII )

This was at 100 realism (with tight armament spread checked on).

I executed several successful attacks on a flight of Hannovers without taking one bullet in return.

There were 5 of them flying in formation. I approached from dead astern and fired at what I think was maximun distance. I got in 2 or 3 , two second burst before I broke off attack as soon as I started to observe tracers coming toward me.

I suffered no hits.

I repeated this a second time on same plane and scored hits again and received no damage . This time the Hannover that was attacked seemed to seperate from the other 4 in its a flight.
Did it a third time, same results but ran out of ammo (I had gotten a balloon destroyed and attacked a few other balloons earlier in the mission and had expended a lot of ammo doing it) .
I looked back ,as I passed the hannover after the third attack, and observed the plane smoking as he went down and down and down until he impacted right over a friendly airfield (Lemmes).

To say I was excited would be a grand understatement. I had to pause the game as I jumped for joy!

When I got back I had my claim for my balloon but when I tried to submit the claim for the Hannover it was telling me it would be rejected out right as erroneous (even before submitting).
What I was able to piece together at the review mission screen was that I did indeed hit the hannover 3 seperate times but a GU British AA also hit him twice after I hit him...(my luck) looks like the ground pounders got credit this time.

I consider this a viable attack method when using a Spad XIII:

1. Engage enemy at full speed with least deflection long range shot from dead astern.
2. As soon as you see tracers, break off attack at maximum speed, dive if you have to and pick up the max speed quickly in order to seperate from enemy flight ...rinse and repeat.

Worked for me and I took no hits.

Can't wait to try it again.

Sounds like you've got it sorted MK2, can't wait till my copy arrives and i can join in.....

Well done, MK2, congratulations!
And the claim - yes, it seems, the one that finishes the plane off, gets the credit. Seems, we must live with that.

In 23 years of combat flight simming (starting with commodore 64 F-15 strike eagle) , I believe that this smisison as described might have been the single most realistic mission I have ever flown in a game.

It really seemed the world around me was alive.

Multiple enemy flights, friendly flights, flak, enemy balloons, friendly balloons , ground battles , explosions, sirens, tracers, it was just surreal .

I finally landed back at my aerodrome , hit escape key, and sighed relief.

I was literally sweating in front of my computer. OFF is a special game.
