SYDNEY or Sydney?

This is the 3rd time this "Misstook" has happened and made the papers, I am told it has also happened several times that did not get reported. I guess if you are a rookie travel agent in Italy, or Argentina, it might not be obvious, but I have never worked in the travel business myself so who knows. I suspect these folks got quite the shock when they got off the plane, I can assure you the difference between the Sydney's is huge, - the one in Nova Scotia is a "Hick Town" compared to Sydney AUS.

The good part of this story is always the same tho, "Cape Breton hospitality" as this story states this couple may have landed in the wrong place, but they were treated to a good time and well taken care of by the locals. I am sure this will be a funny story they tell to friends and family for many years to come. If they don't get out by the weekend and end up at a Cape Breton Kitchen Party they will probably have on he11 of a hang over to take with them - next to the Newfie's, Capers are probably the hardest partiers in Canada, and NO ONE leaves a Cape Breton Kitchen Party sober!

SYDNEY, N.S. - It's happened again: travellers from another continent arriving in Sydney, N.S., when they're supposed to be in Sydney, Australia.

The couple from Italy got a taste of Cape Breton hospitality Wednesday when they unexpectedly arrived in Sydney, N.S., instead of Sydney, Australia. The couple's travel agency in Italy is correcting the booking error, and the couple hopes to be on their way to Australia soon. Valerio Torresi, 26, and Serena Tavoloni, 25, of Italy landed in the Cape Breton city Tuesday night when they thought they had booked tickets for Down Under.
"I think it was a joke, then fear," Torresi said Wednesday night when asked about his reaction to learning they were in Canada, not Australia.
The couple's travel agency in Italy made the error and the couple spent the day trying to correct it, and to see the sights with the help of an Italian-speaking resident to translate.
A local restaurant gave the couple their first-ever lobster dinner and they were given a free room at a Day's Inn.
Torresi said they have been overwhelmed by the hospitality and warmth of the people.
"Oh, yes, very kind, very friendly," he said. "I think it's a beautiful place and I see Canadian life, and it's great."
The couple hope to fly out Thursday for Australia, where they plan to tour the country for 48 days.
Travel agents and tourists have mistaken the two Sydneys on at least two other occasions.
A woman from Argentina spent a week in Cape Breton by mistake in 2008, and a British couple did the same in 2002.

Reminds me of a story I read about an American businessman who needed to fly to Taiwan from Hong Kong. Apparently neither the businessman nor his company's travel office knew that Taiwan is an island and you have to fly to a specific city Like Taipei or Kaohsiung, so they booked him on a flight to Taiyuan City, PRC. Businessman guy wonders why the flight is taking so long, ends up in the Taiyuan air terminal with no documentation on his passport and no English-speaking people to help him out. He was finally assisted by a Chinese lady who sorted things out and got him on a flight to where he really wanted to go on Taiwan. Some folks are just too stupid to travel overseas. :d
