Sylvia's Jug(band) Island Tour

Craig Taylor

SOH-CM-2025
Let's get this party started. Departing Santa Ana for Auki in the Jug. Should be interesting, based on the radio traffic I've been hearing. :wavey:

Made it safely to Auki.

The weather was pretty entertaining, as others had reported, and lived up to its reputation. Got tossed around quite a bit and observed frequent cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning. Wasn't so sure I wouldn't see cloud-to-plane! Fortunately it seemed to break up a bit as I neared Auki, and the landing was routine.

Overall the ship held up pretty well. Only slight signs of detonation damage. :encouragement: The mechs gave me a dirty look as I climbed down from the cockpit, and want to look her over before they let me climb back in. I'll have to buy them a round or two when they get finished, as they will probably have their hands full keeping me in this race. :biggrin-new:

After a short break we're off AGGA - AGGF. Sadly the NDB shown on the map on Skyvector is not replicated in FSX. Fortunately it's a short hop.

Arrived safely at AGGF. Was awfully busy on the trip over with the intermittent rain squalls and turbulence, so no en-route pics. I did manage to grab one at the end of the flight, though.

AGGF - AGGV - Mad dash!

EDIT - Had to restart due to weather engine not started. At least I caught it at the beginning of the flight. Judges, please let me know if I need to add a penalty.

EDIT #2 - Tried to cut that one a little fine and came in too hot - crashed. Will give it another try later.

AGGV to AGGM. On to Munda. :running:

Update: Well, where do I start - getting lost in the scud at 2000' and following wrong coastline, or catching on fire from pushing the engine too hard.:banghead:

AYBK to MKO. Scattered clouds at 15000' at Buka, but the weather guessers (ASN) can't seem to find Malekonon in their systems. :dizzy: Lord knows what I'll find there (if I find it!).

MKO to AYTK. On to Rabaul.

Update: Arrived safely at AYTK. Weather here is very nice for a change! :applause:

I appear to have arrived safely at JCB, but I experienced some strange messages from the Duenna. When I took off I observed a dialog box that said something like "Cant' start flight: server" and on landing one that said something about not being an active flight. However, I did get successful outputs locally on landing at JCB. I'm providing the system log just in case interested parties want to see it.

JCB to GSP. With some trepidation, and hopefully some favorable winds, I'm going to try to make it to Gusap on internal fuel only.

Well, in a fit of capriciousness, FSX decided it was tired and wanted to go to bed early. I think I was probably within 30 miles of GSP when it froze up, just starting my descent. I knew I was toast when FS-Duenna lost connection. :banghead:

Here's a shot of the dreaded cream screen.
