system idle process

i have a dvd full of mp3's that i took off of my drive to save space for other stuff. now i want to copy some of it back onto my drive. trouble is, when i put the disc in the little hourglass just hangs out forever, and it seems like explorer locks up. if i check system idle process it says 99%. if i eject the disc, everything acts normally. if i close the explorer window, it says "system not responding" then if i go ahead and force it, windows explorer closes and i am left with just my desktop. then i have to re-start. any suggestions?

Possibly a bad disk or dirty laser on the drive, have you tried it on another drive/pc? I have had a few that acted that way, sometimes you are SOL, and other times it is simple. I suggest a good cleaning of the disk and drive and try it on another system, you might also check the vendor site for the burning software you used they sometimes have utilities that can recover "problem child" disks.

Good luck with it.
