T-45C Updated

Cool, thanks for the HU!

Now all we need is that wonderful Tomcat!

:ernae: excellent :applause: :typing::medals::medals:

Here is a qote from his list of changes ----

I am releasing another updated version of the Goshawk right now. Filename is t45cfsxd.zip and it is about 21Mb, released at avsim.com and flightsim.com.

No major changes in this release - but some are very imporant for more realistic carrier operations. The Aoa indexer is now working properly (I have to confess I was not using it - and therefore I did not realize there was a major mistake in its implementation). The approach lights are working (as shown in the picture above). I know they are not completely accurate (it works basically as an AoA indexer repeater - while I'm told in the real thing only one color is visible at a time). The major graphic change is the fuselage geometry - the air intakes blend smoothly into the the main fuselage now, which is more accurate.

Also, I've made some fine tuning to the flight controls (as per users' feedback) and added orange formation lights at the wingtip.

Last, but not least, I've attached a 6Mb .pdf document by Phil Thompson (that is also the man who pointed out the Aoa indexer issue). This document contains a lot of very interesting information about the Goshawk and carrier operations in general. I strongly suggest you read it.

Hope you'll enjoy it. Now I am moving fully to the Tomcat...wellunless this Goshawk release contains a catastrophic error ;-)

Here is the complete list of changes (please note that you need to move the .fx files manually to your FSX Effects folder to get the new light work properly):

VERSION 1.20 - CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS RELEASE

Visual model:- The fuselage geometry is now more accurate with respect to the real plane. - Approach light now working (as AoA indexer repeater)*- wingtip formation lights now working (mapped to "wing lights switch")*
* NOTE: To enable these features, you must copy the fx_navorange_t45.fx file in your FSX "Effects" folder. The file is included in this .zip in the Effects subfolder. Also, some lights seem not work correctly with DX10 preview mode.

Interior model:- Reworked AoA indexer (thanks to Phil Thompson)- Reworked Rearview mirrors reflections

Flight model:- tuned various control effectiveness parameters

Documentation:- Added a 6Mb .pdf document by Phil Thompson containing a lot of interesting informations about carrier operations.

its an outstanding model - really well done and I wish I could use it - but for some reason on my rig it just suffers too much VC texture loading lag.

I've got a P3.4 dual core with 2 gigs of RAM and an 8800gt512 and every other plane I use loads VC textures instantly or close to it...but this one.

It vexes me because I love this plane...

Eventually I'll go to 4 gigs and see if it helps but for now :faint:

Hello!
Heywooood I had exactly the same problem.
I fixed this lag converting most of the VC textures from 1024px to 512px.

Perhaps you will able to keep side panels textures in high definition, it depend on your system.
Tell me if it OK for you :)

SP

sparouty !

How are the textures changed?

What do I need to do - or what program is required?

I don't know how to reduce texture sizes durnit

Hi Heywoood!
You can use DXTbmp to open the texture and save it as a 32bit bmp file.
Then you resize it with Photoshop or PaintshopPro or Gimp (which is a freeware).
Last, with DXTbmp, you convert it back into the first format...

Don't forget to make a copy of your textures before that...:)

Regards,
Sylvain

sparouty -

I am a tad noobish at this stuff

is DXTbmp a program? and then Gimp is also a program that is free?

hmmm...I am likely to blow something up trying to do this - but thanks for the information anyways. I just might look into it over the weekend.

Thanks :ernae:

Sorry, my post wasn't very clear.
Yes, DXTbmp is a little program for handling specific texture formats like DXT3 or DDS (have a look here : http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/).
With DXTbmp, you'll able to convert the file into a common picture file format (liker bmp 32bit).
After that, use an editing photo program. The more powerful (and complex) are Photoshop, Paint shop Pro or Gimp (this one is free). But there are a lot of different editing photo programs...

Last, you have to convert back your texture into the original format with DXTbmp...

Please let me know if you have problem and/or if you me to send you a complete set of resized textures.

Regards,
Sylvain

No need to resize! There aren't actually many textures - they're just incorrectly formatted.

Rename them all from .dds to .bmp and ta-da, problem solved.

The reason being they're not actually proper .dds textures just .bmp's renamed so the PC doesn;t really know what to do with them.

The _bump files are DDS....1024x1024 DXT5....

It's strange that the textures got screwed up since the original
T-45C release had actual DDS textures....

well now I'm confused utterly....

so the textures do / do not need to be resized ?

the textures are / are not .dds ?

they need to be renamed? or converted?...or not?

the textures work better if they are .bmp...or is it .dds...:kilroy: brrbbblle

I'm confused too...
Hinch is right there's a strange format issue. I think you can try first, to rename the textures into .bmp and check if you still have the loading lag.

Personaly, I had lag problems with the VC textures since the 1.0 version and so, before the extension name issue, and I fixed it resizing some textures...

Good luck for your "investigation" ..

Sylvain

Yep they are. Rename all the textures except those with '_bump' in the filename to .bmp and it should solve the lag issues - it certainly seems to keep them in the memory for me.

Very sexy aircraft.
