T-6 Trainer Crash in San Antonio Tuesday

An Air Force trainer plane from JBSA-Randolph crashed Tuesday afternoon near Rolling Oaks Mall.
The Wing T-6A Texan II crashed at the Circle Dot Ranch around 4 p.m., but not before the crew ejected safely. The Student pilot and instructor sustained minor injuries and were taken to the base medical clinic for evaluation, a news release said.

Also another T-38 was lost yesterday. Both pilots ok. This makes 4 T-38’s last this year.

better declare a winner of the TX competition and get on with it.
 
Well, when the airframe is as old, or older, than the instructor, let alone the student aboard, you're going to start losing them.
Apparently, no only the T-38's, but the T-6's are coming to the point where they're failing, either catastrophically, or in lesser fashions, more and more. How many failures that the pilots were able to recover DON'T we hear about?
I wager that over-all, failures of the aircraft, no matter how severe, are increasing on a logrhythmic curve as the planes age...

I'm just thankful, although much less so, obviously, than the pilots, for ejection seats. Planes can be replaced, whether they are or not, but every pilot is unique, and irreplaceable. Who knows when the next John Glenn, or Bob Hoover, is in the pipe-line? No matter how good a pilot they are, however, they're still irreplaceable.
