The VRS support forum says that 1.4.2.5 only supports the STEAM edition of FSX. I have the regular Hard drive version, so 1.4.2.4 would remain the latest I believe.

No, 1.4.2.5 is the only version that supports the latest Steam version, but is suitable for regular FSX (and P3d) versions as well. There are other changes / fixes as well, so you should update.
