Tangier Island Update

I just wanted to post a shot of the current status of Tangier Island. Nice part about this is that I am trying to keep the scenery objects to a minimum so that most of the scenery will contain default autogen (vegetation, buildings, etc) and very little that has to be downloaded.
I am also trying to learn how to build and apply terrain mesh to this Island set, but that may have to be a separate update once this get's posted. . .still working on that.

For whatever reason, the area in the foreground will not accept any autogen. I have tried using both the poly region and vegetation boxes to plant trees in that area and neither one works. Seems fine everywhere else, but not there.

Thanks Jester. . . .I did solve the mystery of why there was no autogen being accepted in that one area. . .lol, lol. . . .the AFCAD has an exclude box there, lol. Ya just gotta take everything into consideration, lol.

This happens when you use more than one poly on the same bgl, try making separate ones, that usually work ok with me. Nice work.:icon29:

This is just about ready for a test run to see how it looks on someone elses PC. It probably needs to be someone who has already downloaded the scenery objects that went out with the "Maine Airports" scenery last week.

fantastic work falcon :ernae:
Thanks Smoothie.
I have a question, maybe someone can answer. Meshman told me that the reason the Island had no elevations to it (normal terrain mesh elevations) was because I forgot to do the step of selecting the poly around the islands as a "hole" and then knocking that hole out of the water poly. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. . .still a flat island. Would the exclude also act as a flatten?. . .because that still lays over the photoscenery.

Are you showing any elevations or just 0'? The airport lists at 5' on AirNav and there's a bit just east of the airport boundary that soars to about 6'. Otherwise there's a bunch of 0 to 1' elevation. That's reading off of the default mesh.

I did cruise around the terrain a bit, but not everywhere and it stayed constant at 4ft that is until I hit the rwy and that climbed to 9 ft. To be honest, I have it so populated right now that I don't know that anyone would ever notice. Still it bugs me that I've gotten this far, but can't get the elevations right.

The SBuilderX project has the map, the hole, the water poly and the exclude and that's it. I'm going to keep looking but not many places it could be really.

I love the boat yard! I don't think i've seen that before.
. . . .yea, the boats should be on trailers or lifts or even dense foam blocks, but barring that I just set them on the ground, lol. Here's a comparison of the default and the revised airport. I forgot to pull the scenery file so the objects still show but you get the idea.

...but can't get the elevations right.

TBH, sounds like they are correct. Just looking at the lay of the land from Google Earth, unless any one has been there and knows otherwise, I don't think there *is* any real elevation there. Further south in NC out on the barrier islands 3' looks like a mountain, from the material I have.

I'll find you links to a couple of tools that should help with elevations and object placement in Instant Scenery.

Having lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland most of my life, I must give you credit ... excellent work Falcon! :medals:

Thanks Milton, I appreciate that. Gmax might be my stumbling block right now. If I could get a handle on that so that custom buildings were possible, that would take me closer to being even more accurate. As it is, I'm relying on a lot of the ez-scenery libraries to populate.

Thanks again:ernae:
