TDS Boeing 737-700

OK this is a fantastic model and the attention to detail is superb.

But according to the designers " ..... Due to the increase in file stealing, TDS has implemented new security .... "

The 'Title' line in the aircraft cfg has a special code "FREEWARE_(C)_TDS_16AUG2013" which must be included in every aircraft entry.
Get it wrong and nothing shows.

I've added a number of new textures .... some show and others don't. Even using the painters "add to the aircraft cfg " readme details.

Over the years I've added enough textures to figure out what's wrong when something doesn't show, and trying different things to get textures to work.

But I'm starting to get a bit p_ssed off about all this secret squirrel stuff with the TDS models. The 787 series was the same but although I had to mod some entries they all worked.

They've taken the 737 series to a whole new level of complexity ... pity.

Just wondering how those who have tried this model have found it ?

Pete.

I've tried to add repaints to this airplane the normal way by adding the texture in the TDS 737-700 folder, but that didn't work. The TDS_b737-700_boeing house texture you have to copy the whole aircraft to get the texture to work. You can edit the manufacturer to Boeing to get them to show up under one manufacturer, hope this helps.

I did try it - and 'lost' it.
The exterior animations are everything that's said, but you don't spend that much time looking at the outside.
I found that the panels are rudimentary by today's standards, and there's no VC at all.

Close, but no circular smoking thing.

I am enjoying (in FSX) both the TDS 787 and new 737 (not sure if the last POSKY 737 was all that inferior .. ). I am only flying one paint at a time (as one does) so have just changed the texture= line to suit to get round the security stuff. Nice thing is with FSX is you can splice in a very good + mods freeware VC.

Thou shalt not mention facilities or functionality of "The Dark Side" here, :icon_eek: lest thy bits wither, turn green and fall off.

I have the TDS 787, and just downloaded the 737-700 a couple of days ago. I have to stare at the 787 Folder for a while, until I remember the process for loading paints and merging the Panel. Once I do that, I should be OK piecing together the 737!

dhazelgrove -- here's a link to a discussion about the TDS offering; Kyle from TDS participated, and it's probably the most informative regarding the 737 that's out there right now (I couldn't tell you what they're chatting about at the TDS FB page... I don't use FB).

There are Updated FDE's, and a suggestion to use the PSPanels 737 NGX Panel.

If the 737 flies as easily as their 787 does (once properly tweaked), it's another awesome addition from TDS, and another plus for FS 9!

Hope this helps!

Pete's right, the exteriors are very good, excellent detail, but the cockpit is FS2002 stuff. I have flown the 737-700 house colors bird and it's very good visually, but as has been said the interior is a bit of a let-down. No VC, no wing views. A little disappointing. Haven't tried adding any textures yet but have read what's been posted re: that action and will BOL.

I added a similar cockpit mod to the TDS 787 in FS9, (no VC as of yet) but a very functional, and exquisite looking 2D panel and gauge set using FSX gauges that work just fine in FS9. Since I do mostly IFR and ILS stuff with the 787, the 2D panel has all the necessary avionic instrumentation to compleat the job.

As far as the TDS 737, I have her downloaded and in the "build hangar" at the mo... There is a fix for the base model that corrects a few things, have you tried downloading the fix? I have another 737, the "Loach 737 Experience", that has an excellent VC as well as 2D. The TDS model is an excellent representation of the 737-700 but the "Loach 737" will be a HARD ACT for the TDS model to follow... JMO.:salute:

There is no VC because Hiroshi doesn't like them... but Kyle Schurb mentioned that if anyone wanted to model a VC for it and send it to them, they'd include it... so a VC is still a possibility for anyone who wants to do the legwork...

Thanks for all your feedback.

The original panel was a default 737 panel, which I've replaced with the Posky 737NG. Not having a VC hasn't worried me.

Still the main issue is adding textures and getting the Title line correct. All because of the 'security' format.

As Expat said ..... " I am only flying one paint at a time (as one does) so have just changed the texture= line to suit to get round the security stuff. " That's certainly one way to do it , and I've done that at times.

But I still can't figure why some textures don't show and others do when added the normal way to the aircraft cfg.

Still a great model though.

Pete.

A question about the different textures...

I've noticed that there is a 'Base Package', which contains all of the Model variants (winglet, etc.) and there are 'textures' that need parts of the Base Package, in order to make the variant 'complete'.

Right?

Could this be the reason repaints are 'harder' to load?

:isadizzy:

I got my bird loaded in the Sim (Boeing 'House' colors) with the PSPanels 737NGX Panel, and it seems to work fine!

EDIT 0420Z 9/25/13: I downloaded the Base Package and all of the Updates, and a BBJ livery. I cut and pasted the [flightsim.0] entry from the Aircraft.cfg for the BBJ livery, making the necessary changes (panel, model, ui_description, etc.) and changing just the text after the '+B0_' entry only for the Title. I also deleted the extra [fltsim.xx] entries, so I only have two in the Aircraft.cfg.

Fired up the Sim, and both liveries show up, the PSPanel works wonderfully, and the airplane flies!

One Boeing house livery came as a full aircraft package , I had no problems with that one.

With a few BBJ liveries I decided to make a dedicated BBJ aircraft folder. But even with the correct model folders etc nothing would show. Put the liveries back into the Base Package folder and some did show up. There were no duplicate entries.

Go figure.

Pete,

Interesting dilemma... I only have the one BBJ livery (Sunrise) and the "Plain Jane" version that came with the Base Package. Once I verified that the Base Package worked in the Sim, I removed the stand alone 'Boeing House Colors' package from the Sim.

I'll pick another livery and try to load that one the same way I did the Sunrise. Which ones in particular give you trouble (won't show up)?

EDIT 0600Z 9/25/13: Pete, I tried a 'chop job'; taking the Texture and Model folders from the House Package version, copying the Aircraft.cfg entry and putting it all in the Base Package.
Voíla, it showed up, too!

I'm betting that some of your livery entries in the Aircraft.cfg are using the 'old' format before TDS fixed the Aircraft.cfg, and issued it as an Update That's why they aren't showing up.

Basically, it looks like this...

The 'old' .cfg's had a space after the = sign, for each entry in the [fltsim.xx] section of the .cfg:

title= FREEWARE...
sim= TDSBoeing737-700w

model= B--W2

and so on...

The Update deleted the space after the = sign, for each entry:

title=FREEWARE...
sim=TDSBoeing737-700w

model=B--W2

and so on...

I wonder if this might be the reason for what's happening?

My 737-200 VC is basically open source, so if someone wants to turn into a NG and send it to TDS, feel free to (but credit me and Erick).

I have another 737, the "Loach 737 Experience", that has an excellent VC as well as 2D. The TDS model is an excellent representation of the 737-700 but the "Loach 737" will be a HARD ACT for the TDS model to follow... JMO.:salute:

"Moach"...

Moach's 737 donated the VC for POSKY's old 737 models, btw. I wonder why they didn't get back to it.

Well I've tried everything I can think of .... from downloading updates ( updated cfg & mdl's ) from the facebook site, to making dedicated aircraft folders ( ie TDS B737-700 BBJ ) , but I still have that original problem where some addon texture show and others don't.

One in particular won't show unless I use another aircraft entry and change the texture details .......

StarFlight Express Boeing 737-700 (N92SR)
Filename: tds737bbj_n92sr.zip
Author: Stian Svensen / Tenkuu Developers Studio

I've also used this guys other 2 BBJ liveries .....

Aviation Partners Boeing 737-700 scimitar & WL (N162WC)

..... and had a heck of a job to work around getting them to show.

The Southwest liveries all work. There was the original Southwest Blue aircraft pack and the Gold addon texture .... all good.

Alaska shows with out any problem.

So I'm back to the original TDS Base Pack and using the original 'default' aircraft entries to get various new textures to work or by substituting new textures on an existing working entry.

Frustrating !!

Pete.

Pete,

I'll try the Aviation Partners one and let you know...

EDIT 0210z 9/25/13: Pete, I loaded the Aviation Partners repaint into my Sim, and got it to show up the first time, right as rain! I changed the syntax of the title line from:

_+B0_Aviation Partners "Scimitar"

to:

_+B0_AVIATION_PARTNERS_SCIMITAR

Knowing how the Title line is so finicky, I made the change and had no issues with the Aviation Partners livery coming up clean! FYI I'm copying the [fltsim.0] entry from the Aircraft.cfg of the Base Package as the Template for all my Repaints, and changing the pertinent info for the specific Livery. :greenf:

Thanks Alan :jump:

I'll copy your Title details and try that.

I know all the problems are related to that line and once the mysteries are understood it should all be good.

I've just loaded the latest BBJ .... TY Air Boeing 737-700 BBJ (N888TY) and placed it into my TDS WestJet folder and it's good to go. :applause:

I'll try it in the Base pack folder and see how it goes.

Pete.

The mystery is over ( I hope ).

A mate sent me his Base Pack aircraft cfg with added textures. Now all things are behaving as they should.

I have two aircraft folders ( Base Pack & BBJ ) with the relevant a/c cfg's.

Now all the textures are showing , even the ones I originally had problems with.

Really don't know why I had the drama initially, but thanks for all the help. :applause:
