Many posts refer to the terrain sliders and the 'wrench' and tweaking of the system to get wondrous things..
BUT I cant make sense of it...
I cant find any sliders.. I click the wrench in the OFF folder and I get a box.. CFS3 now configured it tells me? but I cant find anything like the usual MS graphics fiddle tools.. are the sliders a CFS3 feature?:173go1:
I cant find anything in OFF screens that are appropriate..

Oh and another thing.. Is there any thing corresponding to a Met report.
Is the weather a case of what you see you get or is there somewhere where the wind direction and strenth and cloud base etc is available..
Any advice gratefully received..:ernae:
confused of Sheffield..

When you get to that "box" click "file", custom settings, OK. That's where you'll find the sliders in CFS3 config for OFF. Click "Window" to find the rest of the settings, Overrides, Texture Limits, etc. There used to be a thread here on those settings for Nvidia and ATI cards but alas, it's gone now. Maybe someone here on the forum has them saved.

:redf:Stupid me .. I've found it.. It's at the top of the screen .. Has it always been there? I wear bifocals I 've only seen it as a blur before.. anyway what is the wrench thing for?:redf:

Now I expect I'll find a weather map..

Be sure to use the config.exe found in the OFF folder because the one on your desktop is related only to cfs3. Also use the exit button in the files menu because the X button at the top right corner will not save your settings.

Maybe I should have asked which "wrench" you were talking about! The one you want is located at C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftGames\CFSWWIOverFlandersFields. You'll see a "wrench" icon. Double click that one and then refer to my previous post. I could have been clearer. Pardon me!:redf:

It's a patch, without taking you by the hand, it's redoing Microsoft Functions to perform your functions. I've been wearing bifocals since the 70s, I gave up on them about 3 years-ago, and started carrying a huge magnifying glass, like Sherlock Holmes. I found that the main presciption, ( been useing glasses since the 2nd Grade) has stabilized, at almost blind.

But the bottom, keeps getting worse until they throw dirt on you :ernae:
In (campaign) the weather is never your CHOICE

In Quick Flight You select the atmosphere you fly in

OK the Box is sitting in front of you, clic on file, clic on custom setting click on OK, the sliders will be sitting in plain view, these are not meant for "fiddeling" DO NOT exceed 4 on Terrain & Scenery

Please list the computer specs and the Operate System

OK guys, thanks.. :173go1:most helpful.. the slider's been slid...
but
I still dont understand what the difference is between the 'box' of sliders you get from the hangar drop down menu and the box of sliders you get from the 'wrench' icon..
(is there a wench icon?) anyway I've set them to 4 ..
...
Gimpy .. I'm happy to compaign with the weather they give me.. I'd just like to know what it is.. I suspect the Metafs were a bit basic in those days but it would be nice to know.. cross wind 25 knots gusting 35 .. could decide whether I try and land it or reach for the Esc key...( or click on the red line de briefing option?) ..:kilroy:

And of course I havent found out how to set the weather for quick flight..

Gimpy.. my system is..
Viglen Pentium 4CPU 3.60 GHz 2.38 GHz 3.25 GB Ram .. God knows what it all means..
Video card is Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX
Discs C,D,E. Lots of space..
Running TrackIR 4 'Pro' and now , sadly, using a Saitek Cyborg Evostick ; and CH pedals.. :wiggle:

Hi wehyam,

there is no differance at all in what both sets of sliders do.
using the cofig tool gives you access to other areas that may be tweaked as well, whereas using the drop down menu in game only takes you to the sliders.

most people use the config tool becuase they also tweak the other bits and pices at the same time.

also I beleive the sliders when changed in the drop down menu may not stick (so to speak) and the next time you start up OFF (it may defualt back to the settings in the config file.)
I'd have to check that to be sure, its been so long since I used the drop down selection in game.
but if you use the config file you cant go wrong.

once your more experianced with what the relevent files do you can manually edit the files using notepad to get the desired results.

HTH's

EDIT weather for quick flight once you have started your game, and your in the game menu section select location from the list on the left. in the new screen down in the bottom right corner you can pick froma list teh weather type, time of day and altitude.

regards Rob.

G'day Rob.. Thanks
I spent a year and a bit at Maralinga.. Stoker 1st class RN.. :ernae:
Apart from my marriages, the worst mistakes of my life were joining the navy and staying in the UK when I got out... S'pose it's like flying .. make one mistake and you may still have a chance .. put several in a row and yer ****ed..:wiggle:

On occasion, not every mission, the met officer will appear in his own still shot, informing you that bad weather is expected over the front. Period
He'll leave when he's ready and not before. Basically his presence is just a pain in the butt. The last thing I need is him telling me the likelyhood of a spot of inclement weather being on the way. When for the last 3 days it rained over the front.

Firstly cross winds are not simulated in Phase 2, I hear they will be in Phase 3. Secondly I don't know how total the weather forcast was in 1917. They might provide, 'in all probability it will be dark tonight, the sun should rise around daybreak'. January expect the cold to continue.

In the rain or snow, your performance will lessen over time. In summer the rain was dreary, in winter there no way to De-ice your control surfaces.

In the name of realism, one could use a frozen water bottle to simulate the bone chilling cold of flying in an open cockpit at altitude. I'm working on a method to simulate the thin air. You have an advantage, you didn't even know about. Namely, look at your screen through the bottom of your bifocals. What a great simulation of blurry vision caused by Castor Oil on your goggles

By the way, is the return to center, better on the Saitek stick :ernae:

.. Only in OFF but still 'tweeakking it' .. It'll never be a classic..
thanks for asking..

However..
I detect in the sarcasm and ridicule a certain defensiveness..

Gimpy I know enough to believe that in a cold draughty 'open' plane.. its cold.. Trust me .. I know..
I dont think a flight simulator needs to simulate that or your other examples.. BUT is icing in the sim? maybe it should be..

Wind and turbulence are, as you know, important factors in flying .. (and it might just be the case, since the technology has been available for years even in other M$ sims) that some 'realistic weather' was actually included in the version of the sim you so obviously love .. After all I did see a wind sock somewhere!! And if I'm going to be 'burnt' every 3 landings (how daft is that?) there might as well be a good reason for it..

:banghead:

Do Please Remember, this is aviation going in a steps of realism, this but Phase 2. I do honestly think you would have found so many facets of realism lacking in Phase 1, you would never have seen Phase 2

'OFF' is a work in Progress. First and Foremost :medals:
