TerrainSDK

SOH-CM-2025
The guys on this forum have been quite helpful in getting me set-up with CFS3 and the newer add-ons and things are up and working. The new fast speeds, high res, and PTO/MAW are amazing. (ETO coming soon.) Thanks for the help.

New problem: Downloaded TerrainSDK.
The Global Layer utility will not make a .gsl file. The screen flashes up some window(s) quickly but no .gsl is created. I used to use this all the time on my previous computer with no problem. Both new and old computers run Windows XP.
Suggestions, anyone?

It is normal to see the batch file windows command window as the batch file is run. Actually the global_layer.csv is used as the input file and the batch file will then create/modify the gsl.lib file which the game utilizes. Both files (.csv and .lib) are then copied and placed into the game global layer folder. If you don't already have a .lib file in your Terrain SFK global layer folder just copy one from your game global layer folder. When working with the make gloabl layer function I normally copy both the .csv and .lib files from the game global layer folder to the TerrainSDK global layer folder, then run the make global layer batch file.

When the .csv file is alone in the TerrainSDK global layer folder no gsl.lib is created. When I copy the gsl.lib file into the folder and run the utility the gsl.lib disappears from that folder.
Is it automatically creating/moving the gsl into the Global Layer folder in the main CFS3 folder? With my previous computer I had to move the file over manually after creation.

No automatic move from the TerrainSDK global layer folder to the game global layer folder. You have to manually copy the gsl.lib and paste into your game global layer folder.

Try to run the process this way. Make sure your TerrainSDK folder is within the microsoft game folder. Copy both the .csv and .lib files from your game global layer folder, paste into the TerrainSDK global layer folder, run the make global layer batch file, copy the modified .csv and .lib files and paste into your game global layer folder overwitting the existing files.

You should not have the .lib file dissapearing from the TerrainSDK global layer folder. That gives me an indication that somehing is wrong with your file structure of your TerrainSDK or you are missing some files within the TerrainSDK or DirectX/net framework.

If you are still having the .lib file going AWOL try completly deleting your TerrainSDK folder and reinstalling. Make sure that directX and net framework are properly installed as well.

Make sure that within the TerrainSDK you have the Tools folder as the make gsl batch file calls out for the mkglob.exe batch file within the Tools folder to be run as part of the process.

I have included 2 screenshots which show which files should be in the TerrainSDK global layer and Tools folders.

I think that I am going to try this first. I think that you may be right in thinking I may be missing something since I have run this utility countless times before on my previous computer with no problems. I probably won't be able to get around to it for a few days but I will let you know the results.
Thanks for the advice!
