This historical 120 mission campaign follows the 82nd Fighter Group's exploits for all its 30 months in combat, from its first mission on Dec. 23, 1942 through its last operational mission on May 2, 1945.

I finally completed and upgraded the development of the previous 12th Air Force 82nd Fighter Group Campaign. It now has updated models and new missions for the original 12th Air Force campaign and has been expanded with 61 additional missions to continue on after November 1943 when it was transferred to the 15th Air Force. This is a comprehensive historical campaign for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2. It is being presented as a three part download because of the file size.

The 82nd Fighter Group was by any standard one of the most successful USAAF fighter units of the war. Its pilots destroyed 548 enemy aircraft in the air and were credited with several hundred more probably destroyed or damaged during its service in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations and was the second highest scoring P-38 Group in WWII.

It was assigned to the 12th Air Force (tactical) until November 1, 1943 before being transferred to the new 15th Air Force (strategic). It operated over a huge geographical area - North Africa, Sardinia, Sicily, Italy, the Balkans, Greece, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Ukraine.

Many thank yous! I look forward to flying this. One thing caught my eye...when I did the 20th Fighter Group, there were some lines of intersection with your 354th Fighter Group campaign, and on this one, I noticed that some missions involve the Ukraine.

So I'm curious...

I know that during Operation Frantic, after the disaster on June 21st-22nd, 1944 when Poltava was decimated by German bombers, that the focused shifted to Lightnings and Mustangs flying from the Foggia area to the Ukraine, performing missions (sometimes attached as escorts for the 15th Air Force) such as fighter sweeps over Budapest, (July 2nd, 1944) an escort to Arad, Romania, (July 3rd, 1944) a sweep over the Romanian airfields in the Budapest-Ploesti sector, including Ziliesta and Buzau as part of an escort mission to Ploesti, (July 22nd, 1944) a fighter sweep over Poland to attack the airfield at Mielec, (July 25th, 1944) a fighter sweep over the Bucharest airfields, (July 26th, 1944) and another sweep over Kecskemet, Hungary. (July 29th, 1944)

The most interesting one was on August 4th, 1944, when the Lightnings and Mustangs focused on the airfield at Foscani, Romania, and pilot Richard E. Willsie was shot down and force-landed in a field. Another pilot, Flight Officer Richard T. Andrews, landed to get him and Willsie climbed into the cockpit and they both reached Pyratin. These fighters flew one more mission on August 6th, attacking a railyard at Craiova, Romania before returning to Foggia.

At this point, the 8th Air Force returned to their missions with Mustang escorts from England.

Any crossovers here?

Hi Andrew

Yes quite a few actually. The July 22nd fighter sweep over the Romanian airfields Ziliesta and Buzau, the July 25th strike on Mielec, the July 26th fighter sweep over airfields Galati and Zilestia, the August 4th attack on Foscani airfield including the Dick Willsie rescue, and the August 6th Craiova railyard attack.

Because of the sheer size of the 82nd FG campaign load though, it will be a stand alone install. It won't be possible to add other campaigns without causing the game to go into overload and stop working properly. That is unless the added campaign can use only the objects, ships and airplanes already in the 82nd FG campaign. :playful:
 
Thanks a lot Captain. From the read-me I believe this site will be rather quiet the next week, as we all are busy getting this giant working and then fly it. What a huge work you have put into it. Thank you.

Scenery add dummy here is assuming the 13.5a and 13.5b instructions the files are supposed to overwrite any files in those folders in the Afnor_Scen folder in the new install.
 
LOL reasonable question. The files in those folders are additional files. So they are adding files to the Afnor_Scen folder, not overwriting the ones already in there.
 
Hmm. OK . That's what I was afraid of since you did not say overwrite. I did something wrong. I will go back tomorrow and redo that particular section. :banghead:
 
Remember you are taking the files out of the second Afnor_Scen folder from the Afnor_sceneries zip and pasting them into the first Afnor_Scen folder previously installed in step 11.3. If you want to paste the entire second Afnor_Scen folder to the first folder, then it will ask you to overwrite. That will work Okay so you may not have done anything that would mess up the installation.

That may be the issue. Please take a look at 12.1 in the install instructions-"copy the Desert_Scen\scenery folder and the Afnor_Scen\texture folder--". I assumed that should be Desert_Scen\texture folder.
Will proceed with caution to complete the scenery. I did most of this before a few years ago for MTO theater install. I think there a few more steps in this install.
