A quick heads-up for one amazing project which is well known by the Italian simmers...and not much popular so far for the rest of the world.
The SIRX (Scenery Italy Real X) project website is live - even if download is disabled for now:
http://sirx.flightsimulatorcenter.com/
This is a privately funded project to cover the whole Italy and part of the neighboring countries with Photoreal 1m/pixel, plus autogen, custom objects and airports.
The project has gained the support of government agecies and the ENAC (Italian aviation authority) and it is using government-owned 0.50m/pixel photographic material as start. Most of the greatest Italian scenery designers are contributing.
As it is using government data, it will be FREE to download. The bad news is that it seems that, at present, ENAC permission will be required for download - but this hopefully will change.
The whole Italian sim-community is in awe because, while the project has been known for a while and some screenshots have been published by Frank, the project was so ambitious that some were skeptical about its feasibility.
In fact, it is probably the most complex and ambitious free scenery project I've ever seen.
For one, I am extremely happy that finally my home airport LIMJ and my town Genova will have an almost perfect rendition. It looks great!
