Hey All,

Sportingnews likes Hamlin and Ford - driver and crew chief of the year! I guess Jimmie and Chad 5 in a row just can't cut it.

Childress is owner of the year - well deserved.

From another article on Hamlin reflecting on a title that almost was...

"It's so many turning points in this Chase where it can go one way or the other or in anybody's favor," said Hamlin, who ultimately finished second in the points. "Just think about all of the situations you wish you could go back and change; right now it's more thinking about that."

Hamlin said being short on the fuel mileage because of increased engine power in his Toyota this season ultimately hurt him. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver said "that's just one of the things on the list that we have got to work on."

"But like I said, there's many, many aspects of a winning race team," he said, "and you've got to have all of those parts and pieces put together.

Will this motivate Hamlin further or sink his attitude to the point of hampering his performance?...

...increased engine power... what have I been sayin? and "motivate" or "sink"? That is the question.

Well EasyEd...
You're right...the Joe Gibbs Toyota's had more power this season...which in turn is what killed the #11 team...

But your post above proves that MPG was better than horsepower in the 2010 season, hence why the #11 lost the championship #48 team....Fuel mileage bit them in the butt....so in the end, MPG was the better choice over horsepower ;)

Hey All,

Panther Panther Panther

It doesn't prove anything. There are always a few races that turn into fuel economy races while the majority are either horsepower or who can put horsepower to the ground (handling) better races. Horsepower trumps fuel economy far more often than not.

That said it is the role of the CC and driver to know the history of a race and have the correct sense/intuition as to the course of the race - that is - which kind it may be at the end. They better get it right and adjust strategy as needed. Jimmie and Chad did Mike and Denny did not and Phoenix happened. To this day we don't know if they were actually out of gas or not but it is obvious they did not play the fuel mileage game when they should have. So Denny and Kyle looked like chumps coming down pit lane for fuel while everybody else stayed out saving fuel - it happens get over it! The ability to perform under pressure and to bounce back - those are the marks of a true champion. So the test was to see the 11 who still had the lead in points and won last year's Homestead race perform under pressure and bounce back from Phoenix at Homestead. Fail!

You posted the article that said Spencer's opinion and while I commonly agree with Spencer he was wrong this time. Jimmie did bug both Ford and Hamlin but ultimately it was Ford and Hamlin's self doubt and doubt in each other after Phoenix that cost them a championship.

I watched the Championship Ceremony from Las Vegas and I'll tell you what neither Kevin or Denny (especially Denny) liked having to stand at a podium in front of everybody turn to the right and look up at Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus and Rick Hendrick and congratulate them. Denny reminded me of the Fonz the time he had to say he was wro wron (wrong). Great staging and very enjoyable to watch. That said Jimmie has been there too. In his first 4 full-time years in Cup he was 5th twice and 2nd twice in the points. He paid his dues especially the year he was only 8 points behind Kenseth.

They did a Letterman top 10 of why Denny did not win the championship. Most were pretty lame but the good one was "I (Hamlin) wanted to use Jeff Gordon's pit crew but they were already taken".

it just blows my mind that people cant accept that the 48 team was able to rally together, oout erform and out drive the compitition once again..5th time is it?? and yet people still have to make escuses why the other teams didnt win rather than why the 48 team did win..accept it..jimmy is one hell of a wheelman and chad is one of the best if not the best crewchiefs there is...yes he has been causght cheating..but if he didnt push the rules he wouldnt be doing his job....bite the bullit...accept it and congradualte them..stop bashing them....denny and others will have thier days...denny soon..but i think jimmy and chad have the hunger still for that 7 ina row record...chad talked about it slyly in aninterview i saw..said he would love to best "a few of those other great men" and do 7...only do them in a row...so trust me..they will NOT lay down now

I've never disagreed with this.
What I have disagreed with is EasyEd calling the best driver, best crew chief and arguably the best team (Hendrick) as "underdogs"....This I totally disagree with...
