What is the best F-104G Starfighter available on the
payware market ?

CaptainSim ?
AlphaSim ?
Cloud9 ?

Before any buy, a quick review of websites, screenshots, etc...
give me the general impression that the Cloud9 offer is the best.

Am I right ?

Thanks for the info

Cloud9 definitely

IMHO the Cloud9 zipper wins hands down! No contest really!

Take care,

Cloud 9 is the most difficult to fly but has very 'Euro-Centric' loadouts,
Captain Sim is not bad considering it's age, and the Alphasim version is ......well, 'Alphasim'.

Cloud9, but it does have a steep learning curve!
CaptainSim is slightly more forgiving (and has a two-holer with 'instructor' to help you when it all goes wrong)

Cloud9 without a doubt, but as MM rightly says it's a challenge to fly well. Remember to keep the engine RPM over 80% on finals with the gear and flaps down, or you'll skew right and end up as a lawn dart!

and for the Cloud9 also speaks the sheer amount of repaints over at avsim
mainly italian paints but they are all nice;)

CaptinSim F-104 and Vista

FYI, the CaptinSim F-104 is NOT vista compatible and will not work with windows vista. :typing:

Thank you very much Gentlemen for
your smart advise.

By next Payware will be the Cloud9 Starfighter
but if I understand well some of your comments
its a "FS Widow Maker " ! ..... ! like the real one !

Best regards !

Yep, you Canadians didn't nickname it the "lawn dart" for nothing! :d

Don't be makin' fun of us Canadians now.

Personally I quite injoy the Alphasim Starfighter, smooth flight inside and out, just can't get many re-paints for it.:faint:

Tryed the Cloud9 version as well, nothing negative to say about that one. Never tryed CaptianSim Starfighter though, i don't fly any of there stuff, it's too graphic heavy for my computer. As a mater of fact all there stuff is.:argue:

I only have the Captain Sim F-104 and Love it. As a Pilot and one whose had the chance to
speak in depth to a former F-104 Driver, I'd say they got it pretty close. This model will challenge you
everytime you fly it, and will work you all the way down to the ground. Once you think you have it wired
it'll bite you in the A*S!!!
Again, I cant speak for Cloud 9 or Alphasim, and I have WinXP which might play into consideration, but
The Captain Sim F-104 is a winner for me.
As a Side note. I bought it off of Aerosoft's website and was sold as "Aerosoft F-104". I dont know what
the deal is, but it was the Captain Sim F-104. Anyways, just to let you know if someone turns you on to the
"Aerosoft" one.

Make you follow precudures carefully on the Cloud9 F-104.

I once blew out the hydraulicas on takeoff. LOL!

Oh isn't it? I've been using it with Vista 32 for nearly 2 years . I did experience occasions when the models failed to load but that was in XP. Cured it by removing the Legendary F-104 folder and replacing it with a clean one (I learned to keep a spare copy)

I concur about the models - no experience with the Cloud9 version but the the Captain Sim one is a real handful to land. The AS one is easier and is FSX-compatible. Repaints of the AS one are not easy because of the way the paint kit and the model are made. Italian ones in particular are a problem because of the stencilling on the radome. Hence there aren't as many though Henry Williams has done soem I think.

Nope not making fun at all, it had many names given it by the nations that flew it. The Germans called it the "Widow Maker" or "Ground Nail", Germans and Italians called it the "Flying Coffin", Pakistan called it the "Hooligan" while the Canadians nicknamed it the "Flying Lawn Dart". I'm sure it was also probably known as many other things that are unprintable here!

It was a very tricky aeroplane to fly and the loss rate was horrendous, these characteristics have been modelled into the Cloud9 model, and from what others have said here the Captainsim version too.
