The falls of Yosemite in FSX.

Gents,

The wonderful falls of Yosemite pack for FS9 works in FSX as well, if not better, than in FS9.

FS2004 Scenery--Yosemite Waterfalls

FS2004 Scenery--Yosemite Waterfalls. Adds eight waterfalls to Yosemite Nat'l Park - six in Yosemite valley and two at Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. Requires 38 meter mesh (or the 9.6 meter mesh available as a free download from FSGenesis). By Larry Silsbee.

Also, I had noticed that the tower lights in FSX are so weak, one can hardly see them in fog. So I said WTH, made backups of the two default fx effects, and installed these that I use in FS9. They work most splendid in FSX.

That's good news ! Are you using SP1 or SP2 ? I am concerned by texture transparency in SP2 in fact...

Hmmmmmmmmm,

Can't seem to get those files to work. Am using Tymes' 10m files and using 10m mesh settings. Not any of the falls effects appear at any of the locations, no sign of them at all.

Can't think what else may have to be set.

I am using what I think are the same scenery files but from avsim which were named yosemite_falls.zip. Perhaps I need to go to flightsim.com to see if those act differently.

I am using SP2 with Acceleration, but I still much prefer to fly in DX9 mode. On my port overs from FS9 that I love so well, I can make them FSX native, but I loose all Alphas and ergo, all reflections. It just looks blase. As I have reported before, I also get flickering runway taxi markings in DX10.

I only use the mode for special screen captures with DX10 native aircraft that have all the bump maps et al. I am not as fortunate as Roger, I get anywhere from 4 to 5 less fps in DX10 that I do in DX9. Other than the magnificent 3-D clouds rendered by REX with their DX10 checked and the water reflections look better in DX10, I can see little to no difference.

These captures (except the Google Earth Image) are in FSX SP2/Acceleration and Preview DX10 unchecked, ergo DS9 mode. Otherwise, I could not get the reflective Alpha for the metal on the Snipe. DX10 is unchecked in REX.

Ok, so I forgot to load the effects files into FSX. I initially tried to activate my FS9 Yosemite files without remembering the effects. Duh.:redf:

Yosemite can be further enhanced if you like photoreal. Consider using: yos2008_lr.zip from avsim.

Pics using the falls files and the photoreal.

Cazzie, what airport do you take off from to view the falls.

Thanks In Advance

Bill

Mariposa-Yosemite, follow the course on the Google map image, right at 30 miles as the crow flies.

Jim, I tried those Photoreal textures (still in my Add-On Scenery, but removed at present), there's something about Summer only textures in Winter and shutting down all Autogen.
