Once upon a time I had a customer in Hooks Town PA.
I delivered his tractor back to him and was standing in his living room when something on the wall caught my eye on the wall.
I walked over to look at it and it was a telegram telling his parents that he was MIA over Europe in WWII.
He asked me if I had ever seen the movie the Great Escape and I had at that time.
He informed me that he was one of the few Americans in the Camp prior to the escape.
Shortly before the escape he along with all the other Americans were moved to their own camp so they could not take part in the escape.
His view on the movie was it was about as accurate as you could make it given the time constraints of a movie.
He was shot down on his forth mission over Europe. He said when he came back after his first mission the plane was so badly shot up they were amazed it was still flying.
I do not remember if he ever told me what aircraft he flew in.
