The Himmelbett Zone - Kammhuber Line

Shessi

SOH-CM-2025
Hi Folks,
For those who like flying in the ETO and at night.

Just uploaded the finished Himmelbett Zone or Kammhuber Line. A dense set of searchlights for CFS2 reaching from the Danish border down to northern France.

Inludes moving and static searchlights. Blue master and 'slave' searchlights. Going on and off from dusk to dawn and set to show at normal scenery levels.

Cheers Shessi

Great stuff. Do you have the latitudes and longitudes saved somewhere for the line? I am making one for CFS3.

Ted

Thanks Shessi! Our cyber Bomber Command crews will no doubt curse the day you were born.:argue:

On the other hand, the cyber Luftwaffe Nachtjaeger will probably give you a :medals: or a :guinness:

Jaxon posted some time ago (B.C. -before the crash) some very comprehensive info with the links (now dead) for the corresponding maps for August 1944. Maybe could he provide this info again? :gossip:

Regards,

You are right Jag. Bomber Command is very upset at Shessi but on other hand the Cyber Luftwaffe is very happy.LoL

He should be recieving a Beer package soon.

Thank you Shessi!:friday:

Shessi this is only a request and its up to you. You think you can setup a Search light line over Japan as well so we also fly B29 night Raids.

I will really appreciate it very much!

Thank you!:wavey:

Glad you can use them!

Ted,
No problem. I can supply the .sca files which will show the co-ordinates of the middle master searchlight. The only problem is the CFS3 world exactly like the CFS2 and Fs2004 world? If different then it will be off where it should be. The mapping of CFS2 and FS2004 seem to be quite close!

safn1949,
No you're not! :d It's up at the 'LATEST CFS UPLOADS', top right of this page....

EC_ILO,
Jaxon kindly gave me that info, see map below. Interesting stuff. If you would like the info PM me.

Miamieagle,
Also no problem. If you PM me with the co-ordinates from CFS2 and what you want.

Moving on to doing searchlights and fires for cities, targets etc etc (Yes Jagd, I'll be doing Stettin as promised :d).

If anybody wants any specific places/targets set fire to or searchlit just PM with your wishes. And no, I'm not a frustrated pyromanic! :costumes:

:help:

I installed this in my scenerydp folder and activated it, but for the life of me, the lights won't come on in FF. I'm flying around France, and in to Germany and not a lamp is on. Amy I doin something wong?

Thank you Shessi, but I had also the map downloaded from the Jaxon's link in that thread. It's too heavy to post it here (38 M), but maybe NachtPiloten can obtain it from Jaxon if the link could be found...

Thanks again,

Hi Wulf,
Ok, now what level of scenery detail have you set? It must be on normal or higher AND what time? again it must be during dusk to dawn.

Also what area are you flying around in. To make sure, fly due west from Dortmund and you will hit it. It follows basically the borders of Belgium/Luxembourg and Holland/Germany, through northern Germany and up the middle of Schleswig-Holstein to the border with Denmark.

Cheers Shessi

I have the density level set as high as it will go.

edit: I found um... er should I say they found me? Its kinda creepy how they just appear...

That's the idea! :costumes:

Obviously they're not capable of reacting to aircraft, but what I set was that they become visible at about 20Kms/12miles so gives that impression.

I take it you're out hunting in the lit Himmelbett Zone as we speak and all's ok now?

Pauke Pauke Pauke!

Shessi

Shessi,

I have noticed these search lights seem to top out around 23000-25000ft. Any chance to make um go higher?

I'm loving it BTW, really adds a lot of life to FF during a night flight over Europe.

Hi Wulf,
I appreciate you're not being ungrateful, so no problem! :d
I set the white SLs to 20,000ft and the blue master SLs to 30,000ft. Unfortunately it is impossible to simulate fading out or dissipating of the beams so they have to stop somewhere...

Almost all the the aerial nightfighting took place from 0-20,000ft. A Stirling's max alt with bomb load, 16,000ft, Wellington, 17,000ft, Halifax, 18,000ft and the Lanc about 22,000ft (these are 'about max' with bomb loads as depends on bomb/fuel load, weather etc etc and rarely if at all could get to these or their max alts).
After bombing, the ac were almost always put into a shallow dive back to the coast from the target, so reducing in height and increasing speed.

The max the high flyers such as Mosquitos BIV Specials went up to were about 30,000ft-35,000ft but most times lower, as speed not height was their advantage. The only defenders up that high were the few He219s, single engined Wilde Sau's and the odd lightened Me110-but that was only to chase the small number of Mossie bombers!! :d

The meat of the Nachjagd such as the Ju88s and Me110s were flying around in the target rich environment of the 5,000ft to 18,000ft band (and so therefore were the allied NFs).

Sorry to be so long winded! :costumes:
So, yes I could make them higher, but how high do you want them?

Cheers Shessi

I was thinking ...oh... maybe 42000ft? :bump::gossip:

But I like your explanation of the length of the SLs as is. I don't know much about the night bombing, and night fighter operations of WWII in the ETO. I have read a memrior of JG300 (very interesting), and parts of the book, "The Bomber War". Also an interesting title.
