The irony of it all

SOH-CM-2025
I have been building flight sim cockpits, seeking total realism and immersion, for over twenty-five years. I once spent two years researching everything I could find on the T-38 to build a T-38 cockpit that was the actual size with custom built controls that matched the T-38.

Over the last year I have purchased and built a motion platform. To it I added a seatbelt tensioner that simulates G forces. To run this setup, I have three powered usb hubs to handle all the peripherals, and a quantum computer (maybe I am overstating it just a bit).

Besides MSFS2024 I have to run a program for the motion platform, one for the belt tensioner, and another for the buttkicker. After strapping in and starting all of this, I put on the Quest3 headset and go through the checklist to start the aircraft.

I swear, it takes me as long to fly MSFS as it did when I was flying for real. So, I don’t fly as much. It is too much trouble. Such is life.

I suppose it was your own free choice ?

hertzie.
Yes it was. The system is cool when I fly it. I actually fly in DCS more. There is a considerable difference in realism when you roll sixty degrees and pull two Gs than rolling 30 degrees into a gentle turn.

It is because of all the software needed to run my motion simulator, that oftentimes I opt for a motionless, quick flight. However, I look.at all of the steps required to operate my setup as a way to keep my aging brain exercised! NC

Then our brains must be very well exercised. :) On another note, Pete. Yesterday I decided to remove the covers because they are vibrating like drum tops with the Buttkicker and aren't realistic. In doing so, I realized that I have to remove the front pushrods. I might try to do that today. I have an old exercise mat that is about 0.25 inch thick. I think I will cut it to fit the covers and glue it on, so it will act as an anti-vibration material.

I not only removed those metal covers, but got RID of them. For one thing, they are a pain to remove, once installed, as you will find out. Also, (and the MAIN reason I tossed them out) is because it is impossible to periodically check all the bolts/nuts for the various motors with those covers installed. Pete
