The Last P-51

Duckie

SOH-CM-2024
Just Uploaded and awaiting approval.

The U.S. Army’s last P-51 Mustang.
After leaving the USAAF in 1951 and passing through the hands of the RCAF and the several private owners it came back into the hands of the U.S. Army Material Command in 1967 who had it rebuilt by Cavalier Aircraft to F-51 Mustang II version with the serial number 0-72990. It was assigned as the chase plane for the AH-56 Cheyenne flight test program at Edwards Air Force Base from 1967 until it was withdrawn from service (“retired”) in 1975. "72990" was ferried to Ft. Rucker, Al. in 1978 and placed on display at the US Army Aviation Museum there. THE LAST MUSTANG!

Thanks for this repaint Steve.

However we have so many colourful interesting schemes for the P51, that I really wonder why the US Army couldn't come up with something more flashy for their last Mustang ;)

But as always you did a great job (y)

No sense of adventure I guess, Huub. We had a DH Beaver painted in the same standard utility aircraft scheme. The Army didn’t even train an Army pilot to fly it. The pilot was a civilian contractor!

The paint scheme reminds me of the 1990 7-up Mustang (Green and White car)

The green is a different shade.
Thanks Dave, for helping me out with the move. I'm very familiar with the 7-up car. I settled for a triple white 25 year GT convertible. One of the last 25 year cars made and its a 1990. Still got it.

Yeah, mine's been good. It just turned 150K miles last week. I put about 500m/yr on it now.
