FS2004 C-46 Mashup Commando. This package is a mashup which combines the C-46 by Libardo Guzman, Tom Gibson and Greg Pepper, with the DC-3C gauge set by Charles "Dutch" Owens. It contains realistic failure code that will cause both pilot induced and random system failures and fires. This is a complete package with aircraft, sound, VC and five panels. Modifications by Terry Jones.

Good luck to fly it ! :jump:

Video is processing :running:

Funnily enough..just been there for real!

Colin Penney did a nice version for fs2004,along with mesh and landclass upgrades, you can find it at Avsim.

File Description:
This is a complete remake of the island of Mauritius and Rodrigues including mesh, landclass and coasts. There is also a gmax designed international airport "Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam" at Paisance.

Hi,

Yes know that.
Don't like it .. give me problems (I use Genesis and the addon show coast lines problem .. water go in land) and the airport not integrated well in my terrain land class ... :)
I have try to isolate only the buildings of the airport or the airport itself (they are nice) for use it but failed.

Correction (typo from the autor)
Paisance must be " Plaisance" (former name of SSR)
BTW this airport is (again) upgraded due to growing traffic .. (tourists and fret)
In 1978 .. (first time I was there) Plaisance was more like a aeroclub :)
The airport approach is not a easy one !

Why is my engine burning?

Why does the C-46s No2 engine catch fire when waiting for takeoff run? Does it not seem it take an awful long takeoff run to get this whale in the sky?

Just some observations.

C-46 engine fires

Of course, you can just eliminate the gauges that cause the problems and the effects.

There's an odd little file in the download (README1st.txt) that says:

 • The DC-3C Ops Manual should be considered a "Must read" to fully understand what this C-46 MASHUP is all about.
 • I have provided a checklist called "C-46_Checklist.DOC" suitable for printing. Follow it and all SHOULD be well (Remember that failures can happen at any time.)
 • When loading the Military model, be mindfull of the long range tanks as they often start out as full. This can put you way over max gross if your not paying attention to weight.
 • takeoff's from short runways with a heavy load could quite easily be described as "Eventfull". You have been warned.
There are a couple of other hilarious documents included, such as: operations manual.htm, DC3C README.txt,
Then again, my wife hasn't read the Owner's Manual for the car we have had for 4 years...:wiggle:

or even more simple.. delete the aircraft and go with the original Guzman model.. but loaded, it will still take a lot of runway as would any heavily-loaded airplane...

I think it flies quite nicely within what I expect for a heavy C-46. While doing my research for the Connie project I also talked with the CAF chief pilot for China Doll and did learn a few things about that airplane as a bonus.
I can also tell you that changing all spark plugs on the C-46 is quite a job for a Saturday morning :D :D

One of the things Jeff pointed out was that it is quite common to use differential power even in flight to make the Commando turn properly. So instead of just aileron and rudder input you also add or decrease throttle (depending on where they are at the moment) as the airplane enters a turn.
The only time I have seen "China Doll" fly was with very light fuel load and only the required crew on board as she was being readied for the air show season. So it did not need too much runway on that TO.

I think this "update" generally works quite well, but if you want only trouble free flying you're better off sticking with the original.
