I am somewhat confused, I know FS98, then CFS1, FS2000, CFS2 and CFS3. Fs2002 is that also FS8 ? Fs2004 is that also FS9 ? Then do I assume FSX is FS2010?

I know Fs98 is compatible with CFS1., CFS1 is compatible with some FS2000, FS2000 can be compatible with CFS2. Are CFS2 and CFS3 compatible? Is 2002 compatible with 2004?

I had Fs98, have CFS1, CFS2 and Fs2000...I prefer CFS1 and 2...just trying to catch up on the Flightsims so I will understand more of what I read on the boards.

Dave youre correct, Fs2002 is FS8 and Fs2004 is Fs9, bringing FSX as Fs10. (Hence the roman X).

CFS2 and CFS3 are NOT compatible, using different game engines (though I could be wrong about that one.)

Some Fs2002 sceneries and/or aircraft could be compatible with Fs9. But if you want to catch up with the FS community, I would say get Fs2004/Fs9 as most add ons were made for that sim. If your computer can handle it, get FSX.

Cheers,
Hank

Thanks Hank

Ok, takes the confusion out of the realm. I may try FS2004 for the fun of it but I really am a CFS1 diehard.
Maybe if I ever complete my scenery project I will move up the ladder.

Thanks and have a great day

you might find this interesting;
http://www.simviation.com/fs_compatibility.htm

if you are thinking about running FSX,
you had best have a powerful machine.
it is my understanding that it is a resource hog.

FS9 has an incredible amount of addons.
addon quality, as usual, runs the gamut.

finally, in multi-player, the Around the World Race was just completed.
it was flown in FS9 and FSX, in real time
and real weather, updated every 15 minutes.
it was a race between teams from
Sim-Outhouse, AvSim, FlightSim and IFlyOnline.

Thanks Smilo

Not really looking to upgrade to another sim yet, I really am a CFS1 diehard but enjoy checking them all out. I work on my CFS1 and 2 add-ons along with my website as a hobby I enjoy. I presently run a windows 98 450 mHz tied to a windows Xp 900 mHz for my flightsims and managing my websites. I have another running windows7 along with some gigs I have no idea about but I really don't care for it.

I was just confused with the FS8, Fs9, 2002, 2004 terms used on the forums and now just plain Flight ??
and why would Microsoft make CFS3 is its not compatible with CFS2 ? I have a few years to catch up on that I missed.

Thanks for responding, I am catching up faster every day

sorry for the shameless plug.
i'm a little over excited at the completion of the RTWR.

the reason this forum is kept open
is the DieHards like yourself.
they may be few and far between,
but as long as they keep using the place,
it will stay open.
same with the other forums.
notice that there is a train sim forum, among others.
there was talk a while back
about opening a truck sim forum,
but that didn't pan out.

i find it interesting that you would ask,
"why would Microsoft make CFS3 is its not compatible with CFS2 ?"
as i see it, the answer is quite simple, for the money.

i really don't want to start a which sim is better debate.
it always turns into a no win fiasco.
each sim has it's own merits and it's fans,
so let's just leave it with,
to each his own.

No shameless plug in this Forum

We are all of the same community down here in the "OUTSIDE" Outhouse. I will soon take your advice and look at FS2004, but will always stick with the CFS1 at least until I finish my scenery project in about 10 more years. I think that there are more CFS1 diehards than we might think though.

....Now if we could only coordinate them! I say that the best part of CFS is Multiplayer...the added dimension of live pilots really brings the game to life! My greatest enjoyment is to listen to all of the different accents on Comms during our missions. Too many players stay on the sidelines, hesitant to join in. All of the necessary downloads are available for free....as is the assistance in setting things up.
Many might feel that they are not good enough pilots to fly with others....How do you think that the rest of us learned? At the AAC, we've always had an open door policy. ANYONE can join in the weekly missions....the idea being to present a place for CFS pilots to join up with eachother for some fun. Many of us meet for training flights at other times to learn from one another. The bottom line is...if you are only playing Quick Combat by yourself, you are missing out! If you know of other pilots out there...make them aware.
Here is a link to our Homepage, where you can find whatever you need. Feel free to register at our Forum if you have questions. If you need some help...just post and it will be on the way! You won't meet a nicer group of people...that I can say for sure! Come in and look around...:wavey:

CFS1, CFs2, vs 2004

I have tried my best to research this and agree that Fs2004 has a lot going for it but am still confused. Does 2004 offer the battle ability of CFS2 ? I see all the war planes available but can they fight?

From what I have learned creating anything for CFS3 is about nill so I am not interested in that.

Microsoft confuses me sometimes, hell look at windows 7 and I rest my case.

Dave www.thefreeflightsite.com

I don't think that FS 2004 is combat enabled. You can fly them...just can't fight with them! The myriad off addons (both freeware and pay) can make for an incredible flight environment. Initially, the sim does involve alot of tweaking to dial in your best performance...but that is half the fun, isn't it? Sceneries, aircraft, weather, and traffic are all there for your choosing. It would seem that your imagination is the only limitation. I find it to be a nice change of pace from CFS....

Sorry, but this is the idea that came to my mind when I saw the title;

"For going well beyond the call of duty in enhancing and enriching our virtual flying experience."

and the Pilots of the Round Table

I think we have just enough to fill the Round Table, Ivan the Great, Bubba the Barbarian, Smilo can be court Jester, Minute man and I may have to change our names:mixedsmi:

Dave www.thefreeflightsite.com

Maybe we can get Smilo to change this from the CFS1 forum, to The Order of the Sims:salute:

Dave www.thefreeflightsite.com
now that's funny.
please understand that, even if i wanted to,
changing the forum name is not within my limited power.
i am merely a cfs forum moderator.
nothing more, nothing less.

my good friend, Jagdflieger,
up at the cfs2 forum,
likes to refer to it (cfs2 forum)‎ as "the basement".
if that's true, I guess we are in the dungeon.
which is fine with me.

as for FS9, it is not combat enabled.
although, the smilo bomb* is available.
in other words, you can
"Allow collisions with other aircraft"
if you are so inclined.

*sorry, it's an inside joke referring to my propensity
for crashing into opposition aircraft during multi-player dogfights.

.....In other words...."Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" !...(i.e. The great and powerful "Smilo"):wavey: ! Who loves ya', Baby?!?
