The traditional up and running with P2 thread

Traditional as in "not the latest-greatest but still bloody good" :applause:

Finally got set up and running at lunchtime today (I'm sure reboots into Windows must be good for iMacs, especially work ones!)

My first impression is that the scenery is awesome!

My second is that I may need to be shelling out on a new motherboard, CPU, 28" LCD etc. for home before too long!

I'm not sure what settings it's on, but at 1920x1200 on the 24" iMac it's mostly pretty smooth, but with big stutters if you turn sharply (presumably while scenery is loaded or something), so I guess I'm going to need to read up on some of the tweaking threads and maybe restrict the frame rate or something.

Wingmen liked the look of the fields so much they decided they wanted to go and roll in them, but I still eventually managed at least 2 kills (do those pilots wear armour a la Ned Kelly, I wonder?). It was interesting that of the D.IIs my patrol (well, by that stage, "I") intercepted, most came down to fight while one stayed circling up high, presumably guarding against any nasty surprises (which fortunately he got, just at the point where he might otherwise have decided to come down on me like a ton of bricks).

It's amazing how much different it is fighting close up in slow old biplanes
compared to the WWII planes - much more satisfying to pull off a manouver when you can see how it works so much more directly close up; being able to hear whereabouts the enemy is behind you; not being able to climb anywhere near fast enough once the enemy appear on the tac display... etc.

Oh, did I mention the scenery enough yet? Awesome job.

Thanks guys! Now I just have to save up for a machine to do P3 justice...

Thanks nwp, sounds good. Glad you like Winder's scenery.

Read the other threads recently there was a discussion about hitting better.
Get in close. Very close. WW1 crates are canvas and wood don't go boom much and your poor bullets passes through mostly ;) unless you aim for engine/pilot area.

Oh, I'm getting close alright. Too close, sometimes ;)

Just curious as to how "reliable" a pilot shot is if you get it in the right spot (and how small the right spot is). I suspect that it's doing what others have mentioned and getting stopped by a piece of fabric in the way.

I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Don't expect it'll ever be like shooting 109s with a Skyraider though :karate:
