The Unit- Canceled!

I just read today that CBS canceled The Unit.. To top that off NBC axed Southland because it was to gritty of a cop show and because of the new Leno show there was no 10 o'clock time slot open for it.. What the heck?

With all the new shows on this year I have yet to find anything that really keeps my interest and was really looking forward to the return of The Unit and Southland, but I guess this just means I will do something else with that free time and spend ALOT less time watching network television.

Sounds like American and British television are committing the same sins. I look at the listings and see reality programs, soaps, imports and repeats. Very few new programs and even fewer I actually want to watch.

When I do watch TV, I often watch re-runs of 1970' and 80's programs or something I recorded that was on at a ridiculous or inconvenient time and live sports, but more often than not, I hit the off button and either head for the PC or pick up a book.

There is no money to make expensive dramas because the advertising revenue is drying up. It's a catch 22.No programs people want to watch = no advertisers=no revenue=no money to make programs=No programs people want to watch.

if people would just voice their concerns with their wallets they would see a dramatic improvement in the content of television.

I find myself going to Hulu, there are tons of shows there I have never heard of , commercial breaks are limited to 30 seconds or a long one at the start of the show so your average show time for a 1 hour show is 44 minutes +/-. You can pause, go back to review something, fast forward or just what favorite clips. All this done at the time your want to see it.

too bad they killed star treck enterprice that was a great show

Gods no, Enterprise was the franchise that killed Trek, seemingly for good until it was given a much needed shot in the arm by J.J Abrams and crew.

Back on topic, I was rather gutted when The Sarah Connor Chronicles was cancelled. That was a fantastic show, and there are so few good shows about these days it was a real blow to see it taken off the air.

Apart from the new Battlestar Galactica I would go so far as to say that The Sarah Connor Chronicles was the only fantastic show on TV. There are a few "alright" shows like Lost and Stargate Universe but nothing really spectacular.

What really does irk me is the factory churning out CSI, CSI:Insert random location, NCIS, Bones, The Mentalist and all of those other absolutely atrocious, horrible shows with no artistic merit whatsoever. I can actually feel my brain cells dying when I try to watch them.

Loved the first season of The Unit... couldn't care less about most of season 2. I think that show got really off track. Southland... that I really hope gets shopped to a cable network.

The folks who come up with reality shows... I figure we put them all on an island (on camera). On the island are a wide variety of dangerous animals, mines, tiger traps... a 50 megaton nuclear device (booby trapped, with timer), and a rescue beacon. The beacon entitles the holder to be airlifted off the island.

We can call it 'Survivor'. :)

Don't get me started about well written shows that got canceled (See my signature and avatar) TV seems to go in cycles. in the 60's and early 70's it was westerns. The late 70's and 80's, cop/PI shows. Now it seems to be reality shows. mostly because they are cheap to make.

Unlike shows like Firefly, Sara Connor Chronicles, The Unit, Firefly... Did I say Firefly twice? :jump:

They are bringing 'V' back... Morena Baccarin as Diana!

I really wish there was more room for the occasional homage... On Bones, do a costume party where Seely Booth goes as a vampire (Angel/Angelus). On Castle, have Castle dress like Mal.

Creativity seems to be waning in favour of a quick buck. New TV technology has made the 'idiot box' less boxy... but more idiotic.

Ohhh I can't wait ! I'm not much for rehashing old series' but I look forward to this one.

There isn't too many good shows left on TV, but I took a look at 'Castle' , didn't sound very good till I sat thru an episode, pretty funny . Medium is pretty good also.

I liked the "Sarah Conner Chronicles" as well. It was one of the best of that genre done in the past few years. I also throughly enjoyed "Kings" and was saddened to learn that it wasn't picked up for a second season.

On Castle, have Castle dress like Mal.

Halloween episode, Castle is in full Mal costume. Also on last week's episode, after he put on blue gloves he held up his fingers twice indicating the number 2... IE 2 by 2 hands of blue....

I can't wait to see Castle as Mal!

I'm gonna miss Sarah Conner and Kings. Both shows had some real creative possibilities.
