There seems to be a limit on the amount of scenery i can install

Just recently, newly installed scenery dosnt show up in the GO TO AIRPORT menu, although it is enabled in the scenery library and i can fly over it from a near-by airfield, the scenery ive installed lately is fairly random, it could be a new airfield or one off my old ones ive saved to disk.
If there is a limit, like CFS2's 99 plane limit, then i didnt know and i have some reorgaizing to do but i always assumed there was'nt, i have quite alot of scenery where the bgl's go strait into the addon scenery-scenery folder (MIAW ect), i was wondering if that folder gets abit clogged up and needs clearing out.
Has anyone else had a problem like this.
cheers ian

I've tried to keep the latest sim install fairly lean, so don't know if this is any indicator:
15GB in the Addons folder is fine, and haven't lost anything to date...
Trust this helps.

Yes there is a limit but i thought it was 1000 Entries in the Scenery.cfg file.

Other than looking into the language.dll file I am not sure where to find the limit.

I just recently discovered such a limit, though I can't describe it in quantified terms. (It's not the number of scenery entries, because I've reduced that a lot lately by combining sceneries.)

I added just a few little scenery objects and they put me over the limit. The result was that FS9 wouldn't start. I could get to the create a flight screen, but when I tried to fly, the sim crashed.

I don't know if there's a real solution, but there's a simple workaround. I just inactivate some big scenery item in a part of the world where I won't be flying. I wasn't flying in FREEflow Bermuda very often, so I selected it for inactivation and all was well. If I want to fly in FREEflow Bermuda, I just reactivate it and inactivate something else big in another part of the world, like Glacier Bay.

It's slightly awkward and mildly annoying, but it works.

In a similar vein, I also found that it's possible to have too much AI traffic, enough to choke the sim and stop it from running properly, so that you can't select a new location from the Go To Airport menu. I hit the scenery limit in "FS1954" and the AI limit in GW3. It was simple in concept but tedious in practice to solve the AI issue. I just reduced the traffic level to 80%. That was tedious because just moving the traffic percentage slider didn't do it; I had to manually edit the main GW3 traffic file and remove all flights with a percent over 80%. It was a lot of work, but it actually made the sim a bit more realistic, since GW has far more traffic than there really was in the Golden Age.

I have no idea whether either of these limits are basic to FS, or if they vary with each individual system.

Intresting, i do have alot of ai, my sim is base'd around calclassics but im also intrested in alot of MIAW packages, and quite alot of scenery, ive made up my own traffic plans, about 70% of my aircraft folder are ai aircraft, seems to be something im really into at the moment, maybe its time for a bit of house keeping.

Problem sorted, there seems to be a duplicate cfg in C/documents-settings, i deleted it and the sim produced another one and now everything runs fine, never new about that before, always something new to learn.

Yup, discovered that one a while ago, whenever I added a new cfg area, the sim would add the last lot that I did in one go each time, about 5 entries in all. No matter what I did, hand-editing, the sim would always add those duplicate entries again, causing problems. Eventually tracked it back to the same file as you.

About pushing the fs9 limits.

955 sceneries in AddonScenery (about 28 GB) and some others elseware. More than 2000 AI planes and AI traffic (100%) almost as much as there is (in the world). Haven't seen any limits yet. Only the computer is pushing it's limits (long loading times and memory (RAM) consumption is high).

I've long suspected that "sim limits" are really the limits of the system the sim is installed in.
