I'm not quite sure how the BBC have marketed this to the rest of the world as it now seems to be global and must have made them squillions but in the UK it's really seen as a Childrens TV program!
Sorry guys

And those things would be...?

old police pitstops, includes phone, somewhere to sit and have lunch, storage for coats on warm days whilst on the beat etc, we've still got one down on the sea front in blue :)

No, it's not a Turdis, it's a 'Cabman's Shelter' - a sort of Cafe stop for London Taxi drivers (and ONLY for London Taxi drivers - walk up and ask for a cup of tea and you'll be told to clear off).

I rather like them :ernae:

(more info here for the architectural historians among us - http://www.urban75.org/london/cabmans-shelters.html )

Thanks 6297J for the heads up.

I thought it was the Boeing 747-800 version of the Tardis there for a moment, lol..

They almost look Japanese. Nicely made. They appear to be made 'precisely' alike. Just a little bigger and you have a basic little cabin to put out in the woods..

Dr Who is the worlds longest running TC sci fi program.

The Tardis is supposed to blend in with its surrounding, it has a chameleon circuit, but when Dr Who first aired, the blue police box's still existed in London. In the days before the police had personal radios, each beat had a blue box where the officer could report to the station. The public could also use the police telephone to call for help or report a crime. They were sturdily built and had a lockable door and could be used to temporarily lock up a miscreant.
