The date is 11th June 1918 and the time is 20:30hr. The Pfalz is low on fuel and it is getting dark!

Doeas any body know the name of the pilot and what happened? The first with the correct answer can have the repaint :costumes:.

Gefr Heinz Kleineberg took a wrong turning and landed in the wrong country. He was interned by the Dutch.

Best wishes

Wow, that is correct and very quick!

The "Gefreiter" took off from Menen near Ieperen (Or Menin near Ypres as the French say) and got lost and landed at 12th June at 20:30hr near Schoonedijke in the Netherlands. The pilot was taken prisoner. As Schoonedijke is only a few miles over the Belgium-Dutch border, the pilot may have flown there deliberately. The Netherlands were neutral during the first world war therefore he new he would be safe there.

The aircraft was undamaged and taken to Soesterberg where it was tested by Willem Versteegh. He was not impressed, nevertheless the aircraft was interned and was used by the LVA (Aviation section from the Dutch Army) until 1922.

I plan to upload this repaint together with the same aircraft with the Dutch markings as one package.

Congratulations Grumpos!

Wow Terry,

Awesome work with AI!

You guys need to create a new off chute FS9 variant based on WWI and you need to do this now....

Very nice...!

Octuplets?

:costumes: :costumes: :costumes: and it is becoming ever worse!

I have uploaded a package with both the Dutch as the German version form this aircraft. In his book "Pfalz Scout Aces of World War 1" Greg VanWyngarden claims this aircraft was painted dark brown and had 5 colour lozenge wings. However of comparing the fuselage colour with the orange from the Dutch markings and black from the German "Balkenkreutz" most other experts came to the conclusion the fuselage colour was much lighter. On the available pictures it is clearly visible that the wings were one colour, most likely silver dope. The Dutch applied national marking both on the top and bottom from the upper wing. As far as I know this is the only aircraft which had these markings.
Most interned aircrafts had a thin white line around the orange balls, but not on this aircraft.

The German version with the correct "Balkenkreutz"on the fuselage:

The original aircraft still with the German markings:

Loving this bit of Dutch aviation history as well as these superb repaints Huub! Mike
:ernae:

PS, I have the original full size image of this screenshot if anyone is interested.

Thanks Mike, it is a nice shot again.

But the scenery is a bit too modern for me ;) I would be very grateful if one of the talented people here could make some WW-I scenery :wiggle:

Cheers,
Huub

Great history Huub, I have both in FS9 and FSX. Could not help myself, had to take a flight in the clouds with the Dutch version yesterday in FSX using my just downloaded and installed REX.

That's a real Dutch sky Cazzie! (ever heard of a painter called Salamon van Ruysdael?) Are these REX clouds? If yes can you post a some screenies in the FSX forums with screenies from the autumn and winter ground textures?

Thanks in advance,

Huub
