Timothy Treadwell's replacement?

So I'm watching the Discovery Channel, and there's a new program called Alone Among Grizzlies. It's about a man named David Bittner. He's from Switzerland, and he's spent the past five or so summers where? Katmai National Park, just like Treadwell. Why? He wants to show that grizzly bears should not be feared, by making friends with them. Like Treadwell, he's named all his grizzly buddies, gets close enough to touch them, to prove they're not dangerous, as long as you know what you're doing. That's what Treadwell said too. He's even camping in the same spot that Treadwell was killed, the”Grizzly Maze”, named by Treadwell. Treadwell made it, what, seven summers? Bittner is up to five so far, I think.

I find this fascinating. I don't think it matters how many Timothy Treadwells “happen”, there will always be another David Bittner right behind him, doing the same thing, for the same reason. I suppose in some ways it's like those guys who jump out of planes without parachutes, for the purpose of catching another plane in flight. People do that too. Maybe the world would be a boring place without Treadwells and Bittners. They certainly think so.

I'm surprised that they're letting this new guy do the same as Treadwell. But then again, it's his butt. Just hope he doesn't bring his girlfriend along as well. That was the real shame of what happened to Treadwell.

...It seems a bit difficult to believe bears are not dangerous if you know what you're doing....Sure,...we all know one's life is at risk if you stand between a mother bear and her cubs. There's 100% chance you'll be attacked by the mother bear.
But what about the unprovoked attacks made by grizzly and black bears? When there were no cubs involved? Bears are cool,...they just need to be left alone.

Wild animals should be left alone...they should not be buddied up to, they should not be petted and named. Admire them from afar, take pictures of them....but leave them alone. Wild animals should remain wild animals.

Guys, I have to agree, especially when it comes to large wild animals, in particularly carnivores!

But I have many wild animals around here, squirrels, a rabbit or two and one old crow, that have become almost tame. they allow me to feed them from my hand and will come up to me. But I do not try and pet them, I bever even touch them. I hold out food and they take it. The dang ol' crow even talks to me, I can tell his caw above all others. I put out with a morsel and he flies down and takes it where I sit it. I'm actually gonna miss that ol' bird when his day is done. I had a pet crow once, but this is the first one in the wild I have ever had to communicate and come close.

The thing is with this guy is that when (not if) he does end up bear munchies, someone else is going to have to go in there, risk their lives and put that bear down. Just to try to find what's left of his remains will be a great risk to others. If it was just him, I'd say let nature take it's course. But he's risking other people as well. Including the camera crew that's up there filming him.
