My wife and I returned today from a ten day trip where we toured all of Nova Scotia/Cape Breton, Had dinner on Prince Edward Island, and the southern coast of New Brunswick.

The land and water were beautiful. However, we already knew they would be. It is the people I wish to talk about.

Everyone we met in Canada without exception was most helpful, pleasant, and cordial. No request seemed to be a bother or nuisance.

I wish to publicly thank Gigabyte and C9Gal for the advice they gave me before the trip. Gigabyte and C9Gal, your country men and women did you proud. All Canadians on this board should be proud of their country and people.

When I hear/read great feedback like this about my country, it makes me even more proud to be a Canadian. :canada:
I will be going back to visit my roots at the end of June. Leaving for a 10-day vacation to Maine and New-Brunswick.

Glad you and your wife enjoyed your stay and were also treated well by fellow Canadians.

With all due respect Sir, I beg to differ. I love Toronto! It's one of the prettiest, cleanest and friendliest cities in Canada. Being that my brother is a resident of that city, I get to visit quite often.
We have always been treated with decency and warmly welcomed. Granted I don't live there, however my brother raves about Toronto every chance he gets. All my interactions with Torontonians have always been cordial and respectful.
Toronto is a melting pot of various ethnicities and cultures. Each of which, contributes to the uniqueness of it.


Now Quebec city on the other hand....:bump:
 
I have to agree with C9G, Toronto is a very nice city - been thru there several times on business and pleasure trips.

C9G: Have a nice vacation. I'm originally from New Hampshire and I've been thru Maine quite a few times - a lot of nice places to visit especially if you take the "coastal" route..

I never had the chance to go to Prince Edward, you are lucky. Ive only been to Calgary and Yellowknife and you are right the Canadian people are the nicest bunch of countrymen I have ever encountered with excellent hospitality and a great attitude and personality:medals:.
 
Grew up in Augusta, Maine, and also plan to visit there this summer. Haven't been up there is a while.

Yeah, it was a few years ago now, but I’ll never forget it.
 
Being a former Buffaloanian ... and living on Grand Island in the middle of the Niagra River, it was nothing for me to skip across the border every now and again and enjoy Canada.

Made many a trip to Toronto ... At the time of my traveling it was (or seemed) to be an alright town ... it was clean, I'll give it that.

Lots of neat stuff to do up there for sure.

I've traveled to many places around the world, and Vancouver is still my all-time favorite city. It's just so beautiful there. I'm definitely gonna a get a place there one of these days...

And my favorite city to eat at: Montreal. The food there is sooooo good. My wife and i tried many "hole in the wall" resturants and they were all delicious!

Never been to Canada myself... but if the Canadian SOH members are any indication... then we are lucky to have neighbors like that. :canada:
 
i never said the people were mean. i just said no one knows where they are going. try it sometime when you go next. if you ask 5 people for directions maybe one of them actually knows. i will say that for as big as it is, it's clean, and there is some cool stuff to do....if you can find your way :icon_lol:
 
John, I too have been on that same route but returned to NY via the northern route up thu New Brunswick and the 401 back west to cross over to Massena, NY. You missed taking the ferry over to P.E.I., that was a sweet ride in calm waters. ;) And yes, they are very friendly in the eastern provinces.

I hope you had the chance to get a taste of the North Atlantic on P.E.I.'s north shore. It sure can be wild. ;)

Gary, We took the CAT from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth. That was kool. Much like riding on a high speed train. It was a nice experience.

I understand that the bridge over to PEI was expensive to build. However, I was taken back by the $42 CAD round trip toll. I think they would get more visitors if they lowered the toll.

We went in the evening, drove around a bit and then had dinner. I wouldn't have minded going back the next morning but, wasn't going to pay another $42 for the privilege. I bet not many people commute to work in New Brunswick every day. :)
 
First, thank you jmig, for the kind words. Glad the trip was a success. I was born in Calgary, raised in Montreal, and have a list of 'past addresses' that covers most of the rest of Canader, eh?. It's always gratifying that others see what we take for granted.

I just got back from taking my American-born wife on a personal history tour of Montreal and Oddawa (those who know Canadian politics understand that name), including the monuments, museums and parliament, and as a tourist I too was impressed by the friendliness.

Even in Montreal -- we had our rental car broken into and her purse was stolen. Within 20 minutes we got a phone call from a citizen who found the dumped purse, her cell phone and most of the contents. He called our daughter-in-law from the phone list who relayed the info and all worked well. A quick drive and we had it all back except for the credit cards (which had already been stopped). His good English, my rusty French and we made new friends. After all the stress it was 10pm and we were starved... found a pizza place that was closing, but after hearing of our day the owners stayed open an extra hour so we could get a late dinner.

The highlights of the trip:
--A flight in a Waco UPF-7 over Parliament and the Canada Aviation Museum
--Once again enjoying good Montreal cuisine
--Having a long visit with someone I hadn't seen in almost 45 years... one of my old flight instructors - SOH member John Reid

Been to Vancouver BC twice, the people were nice and I had a good time. If you ever go there be sure to visit their Chinatown. I went there to get some Asian groceries for my wife and I thought I was back in Hong Kong. :) No wonder movie companies use it as a substitute for overseas locations.
