Hi Moparmike,

I cannot access www.combatfs.com as well. Do you think this could be a problem at my end? I notice a number of the downloads in www.sim-outhouse.com which I cannot access are still being downloaded by other people, e.g. RAF_Banff by The_Editor.

Thanks,

Kevin

You can't reach the combatfs.com main page?

Can you try another browser? Or try a complete flush on your cookies and temp files with the browser you're currently using.
I know others have had that problem before but I'm not positive on the remedy. Let us know if that helps.

I ran Window Washer, clearing out all cookies and temp files, and I'm still not able to open the combatfs website, including the main page. I am having no trouble opening any other websites on the net. I'm using MS Internet Explorer 8. Thanks for the suggestions - I might try another browser.

More info required

Yo kdriver;

I would say the problem is on your end Bro. I can access the link in both IE8 & Firefox 3.0.14 with no problem at all.
In both my browsers the page loads instantly.

So lets have a look at what you are experiencing and try to isolate the problem.

- what message do you get when you cannot connect? a "404 - page not found"?

- what security apps do you use? Norton? McAfee? AVG? Win Defender?

- what firewall? Stock WinXP? Stock Vista? Zone Alarm?

- do you have "Java" installed?

Please supply as much info as possible including what o/s you are using.

This is most likely a very simple problem; BUT without all the pertinent info it becomes akin to the old "needle in the haystack" routine and thus a big waste of time.
Therefore WE NEED YOUR HELP; in order to help YOU.

Hi Dirtman,

You're right - the problem was at my end. It required quite a bit of detective work to sort out.

I'm running XP with SP3 and Trend Micro antivirus which deactivates the Windows firewall and uses its own. Java is installed.

I was getting the "404" error.

After checking firewall, security and antivirus settings to no avail, I turned to the modem. I disabled DHCP and enabled NAT. I then went to the Internet Protocal settings in Windows and assigned both IP and DNS server addresses instead of obtaining them automatically. Still no luck.

As a last resort I changed the DNS server address to that of another ISP, and lo and behold it worked! Bloody finicky things these computers!

Thanks for your suggestions,

Kevin
