Anyone here use Tobii Eye tracker with FS2020?? Specifically with a gaming laptop?

Pros vs. cons, thoughts, opinions on it??

I use the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 with my desktop PC. (I am not familiar with VR, so I will not be able to compare the eye tracker to VR.) Hands down the best thing about the eye tracker is you do not wear anything on your body. No baseball cap, no headset, no nubs, no radio opaque spots, NOTHING. Once set up properly it is great. There are several set up videos, so make sure to watch those. I usually start my MSFS2020 flights from the departure end of the runway and one of the best tips I got from the video was hit F12 2X when you first are settled ready for flight on the runway. That seems to put you in the pilot straight and level veiwing position.

I don't have any serious cons, but I would say there are no easy solutions in this area. You have to tweak (and tweak) your setup to get the best result and sometimes the eye tracker operation gets busted by Windows and / or other updates.

The eye tracker can also be used in a number of programs. I give it a "thumbs up".

I switched to the Tobii after years of TrackIR and it was a big step up. As Jay says no caps and gear on the head makes a great difference. In 2020 it works great out of the box, no tweaking needed. In 2024 it's still buggy but there is a workaround until it's fixed. Works great also in DCS.

Again as Jay says, not comparing it with VR which is something different.

Yep, count me in as a Tobii fan! I do have VR as well, but I use the Tobii more frequently because you don't have to deal with being in a VR rig. You don't get the full immersion, but being able to just glance around the panel and around the cockpit windows is awesome.

When FS2024 first shipped Tobii support was completely broken (there are now a couple of workarounds) and it drove me crazy to have to go back to the view hat to look around!

I replaced my TrackIR with the Tobii, and it works great in 2020, and, if you do the Truck Simulators by SCS, it works great with them also. As Denny says, it is still not great in 2024, but they are working on it. The only thing I find with mine is it only has 4DOF. No zoom in or out in FS.

Don - If you are looking for that zoom in / out feature, try the set up guide I link below.

Set up guide here - https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/settings-setup-guide-for-the-tobii-eye-tracker-5/502973

Part of that set up guide states - "SU8 introduced 6DoF and more detailed settings for the feature. Now you can tweak your Tobii Eye Tracker 5 experience to a much higher degree than previously."

My experience has been (and the linked set up guide shows) that eye tracker control appears on the MSFS2020 Controls Options page. Just do the Google search "tobii eye tracker in MSFS2020" and you get more returns than you have time to review in the next year or 2!

I've had the Tobii 5 for a couple of years after my TrackIR died, going over to Tobii was quite a leap (IMHO!)
Especially the fact that it does not need any wires or anything on my head.

Yes, it's a wee bit on the expensive side but once I had everything set up, I'll never go back.

I've found that this video helps you get the Tobii set up nicely, you'll need to download Opentrack which allows you to get the settings just right;

Tobii & Open Track set-up

Further Tobii Set-up Instructions

You'll still need Tobii Experience running too.

The strange thing is once it's set up I've found that it also works pretty well in MSFS2024. I hadn't realised it was still running in the background when I had closed MSFS2020 & started MSFS2024, no major issues but it may need tweeking to get the most out of it (curves, etc)

Hi all, 2 months ago I bought a second-hand MSi 17" WinX gaming laptop and noticed from the stickers on my keyboard that it has TOBII as a feature, but it is not working I think, it only gives a red flash when I start the laptop.

During winter (like now) I spend 3 months on the Canary Islands with my CFS2, FS9, FSX, IL2 etc. (no MSFS 2020 or 24).

Please be so kind to tell me if it should be worth trying to get this feature going for the sims I play and if so, what I should do to have fun.

Kind regards,

hertzie.
