Tom (Gnoopey) Kohler's P-47 repaints

Hello gang,

First, a huge thanks to Tom for a great model!!! Just getting around to some WWII types I have not had time to explore.

Anyone know if there was ever any RAF, French, or any other arms' (apart from the USAAF) repaint of this great model?

Many thanks!

dl

I painted a post-war 81 Squadron P-47 but did not release it. Could 'go through the hoops' to upload to SOH if desired.

Gnoopey's T-Bolt is a P-47M.
If I remember, the P-47M was used only by the 56th FG so don't expect many other repaints...

Best regards,

Stephan

As Stephan says, yes, it's an M model. But if historical accuracy is not that important and you want some colorful paints, all of the bubble-top D-25, D-30 etc CFS2 skins will fit it. cobrauk did a bunch of them but the links are still dead in the library. There are others too...names slip my mind at the moment.

Yes, I'm aware of the -M model issue, but as we've seen with other great models, they've made great platforms for many paint schemes that would otherwise go on a lesser model, or for which no model exists. In my case, I haven't the $ at the moment for the WOP model, which looks very sweet, and instead wondered what options might be lurking for this great model.

JKcoop, I only see P-47 repaints done by cobrauk for Malinowski's model - am I missing something? Isn't that a whole different (older) model than Gnoopey's? Please advise.

Thanks to all,

dl

I loosely remember talking to Gnoop about that and I think that model is the base he used for his -M. Here's a shot from post RTWR '08 with Gnoop in his RB-50 and me in his Jug with a paint for the K. Malinowski -D model so they do work...if you can get ever them. :frown:
Maybe Tom will chime in with real answer!

Hello JK,

Thanks for the update - I'll see once the files gets restored if I can get some of the cobrauk paints. There seemed to be only USAAF paints, though - anyone know of any like what R75 posted - RAF, Burma, Far East Theatre stuff? Ranger, yours looks superb!!!

Wondering if anything like this was ever done for this model:

or even some of these ... :)

If any of these have been done, please let me know. R75 - would love your paint if you upload it. The fine metal base of the stock model makes for a nice background for that particular paint - I'm sure it looks superb!

dl

Hmmm ....

I picked the RAF texture from "4,5,6" file, dropped in into the sim, changed the aircraft.cfg, etc, but all I get is an untextured plane. I changed the one frile from 'p_47d_25_t' to 'p-47-25d_t'. Still an untextured plane. I added in the other texture files from Gnoopey's plane, and then I get the plane textured in his default metal with blue cowling paint.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

thanks,

dl

Thanks JKC et al,

Got it to work - small typo in the texture renaming. RAF paints looks superb!!! Though, a bare metal Armee del Air would be sweet for some nice post-war Algerian sightseeing ...:wiggle:

cheers,

dl

A quick question,

I'm a big fan of 2D panels for most of my flying - any good substitutes one would recommend? I'm thinking of bumming the panel from the CWD Hellcat, or the Dube Bearcat - but wondering what some of you would recommend for a reasonable P-47 2D panel substitute.

Thanks,

dl
