Too bad we never got one of these....

For FS9.....

You are correct it would have been great to have Manfred's superb Basler and Barrick DC-3 conversions in FS9. But knowing Manfred there simply was no way he would go from a Ferrari and turn it into a Pinto just to release it.
I have started using FSX just to run these two airplanes, as they are truly magnificent. Not a single one of my FS9 pay ware aircraft comes close to the fidelity in the VC of these two.

I still don't like FSX....but I love these two.

Cheers
Stefan

Wouldn''t it be possible for someone to convert it to FS9? I would think that all a qualified individual would need, would be the souce files and a texture remappig. I could be wrong. I think it would be great to have one of these in FS9 as well as a Tri-Turbo. I hope we get those someday. Mr. Shupe, we have a request. LOL just kidding. Best regards, Jeremy aka Birdy

I also use FSX once in a while.... and I have this plane for that sim. There are only a few other add-on planes that I have for FSX... no payware. Still, it's a joy to fly the Basler and Barrick DC-3's... they are indeed superbly done.

I have most of my time, effort and alot of payware for FS9, it's my sim of choice. Not to say that I don't like FSX, I have a machine that can handle it just fine, just that I have FS9 looking almost as good, and I can fly anything, with any scenery and weather... pretty much smooth as butter.

This same topic has been discussed to great length over at CalClassic and while there are a great many people who "want" this or that to my knowledge no one has asked if Manfred would share his source files. It is far more complicated than re-mapping some textures and assign a few animations. If it was I am sure it would have been done by now. It is not making a FS9 model behave in FSX, which as we all know in some cases requires nothing more than a couple gauges to be changed out and a new prop texture on occasion.

As for FSX, having been behind the scenes a bit with the Constellation project I find that there are certain aspects of FSX where the physics engine is off enough to make it more video game than simulator. Most of the out of the box graphical issues with FSX such as completely incorrect ground cover over much of the world can of course be fixed with add ons just like we eventually all fixed FS9.

For now I am quite happy with the old 9 .... And only turn on X for testing and an occasional trip in the PT-6 powered Dougs.

Cheers

You are of course correct Stefan. A lot of what makes this aircraft great in FSX would be lost in an FS9 transition. If it got an FS9 make-over, the original author could do it best and fastest, and that would take some time and effort.

Stefan,

I did ask about source files, at least regarding the upcoming Super DC-3, and recieved no response what so ever.

Hopefully MJ will read this here and maybe make an offer or take a step to assist us in making a conversion of these aircraft. I stand ready to assist in conversion of textures if this ever comes to fruition.

Ok..I stand corrected that nobody ever asked then.

Converting the textures is really the tiniest part of the conversion ...flip, resize by 50% and usually adjust the alpha channel to a lighter shade.
It is all the other work that makes this unfortunately a non-starter. I just don't see it happening.

I understand compleately about the differences in the model, and the amount of intense work that went into the FSX Basler. I just thought it would be cool to have one for FS9. Manfred's DC-3's for FS9 are magnificent by themselves, and I remember one specific version, "Que Cera Cera", a "ski version" of the DC-3 with a longer nose configuration. (Geezz... I probably mispelled the living daylights out of that one). Originally the first model was for FSX but there was so much interest in the plane for FS9, that one was done and released some time later.

Still, I enjoy the Basler and Barrick versions... on "The Dark Side" of FS....:icon_lol:

The C-47 with the round engines was somewhat different in that it was as far as I remember Manfred's first foray into the wild world of building for FSX after "closing out" the Constellation series. Some of us are not quite done with them just yet though :D

The VC in the C-47 and any other variant with those radial engines is based on the default VC which I think he was able to ....cut and paste for lack of better understanding on my part of the Gmax magic box...into his model and then modify to some extent. The PT-6 VC is 100% new and would as I understand pose the greatest workload in going backwards from X to 9.
With a bit of luck the Super DC-3 will get the FS9 backdate since again it would be the original default VC and I know there have been plenty of pleas to make that one available for FS9 as well as FSX.

Personally I hope I am wrong and Manfred does take a day or two, just kidding of course, and converts the PT-6 Dougs when he is not juggling chain saws or makes a locomotive disappear.

Cheers

Well, this depends on the amount of FSX-only features Manfred has used (and this includes custom XML gauges)...

But you, and he, is/are right. I figure that the plane would lose a lot of fidelity if converted to FS9 without all the fancy materials and high-res textures.
